RAMADAN BEGINS OCTOBER 16 [Saturday] in USA

The Crescent of Ramadan was not sighted anywhere in the USA on October 14. Jamaat al-Muslimeen representatives all over the country report no sighting.

Dr. Omar Afzal, who has made it his mission to check on crescent sightings for 25 years, stated that the Crescent was NOT sighted ANYWHERE in the USA.
Specifically it was NOT sighted in Southern California and Arizona which are the favorite hunting grounds of those who like to claim sightings. The horizon was clear in both those areas.
[Dear reader: At 11 PM on Oct. 14, a rumor was started that there was a sighting in Austin, Texas. An Imam in Maryland, who was last seen in a photo op with Bush, started calling people to say that it had been sighted in Austin. New Trend asked him: Have you seen it? Answer: No. Do you know who saw it? Answer: No. Dear readers, such behavior is a violation of Islamic law. If anyone claims the crescent was sighted, ask him/her: Did you see it? The answer will be "No, I heard from so and so." Then get the number of so-and-so and call them and you’ll find the same situation. There is a rumor mongering mill in this country.]
[Many Muslims simply call their home country and start fasting if the fasting started there. Such behavior is opposed both to the Sunnah and to scientific realities in a world where there are various time zones. Nationalism rather than Sunnah drives many immigrants even in their religious behavior.]

Jamaat al-Muslimeen's Call:
BOYCOTT ELECTION 2004

WILL MUSLIMS BECOME INEFFECTIVE IF THEY DO NOT PARTICIPATE in VOTING?

By Kaukab Siddique

Three points from our first article:
  1. ISLAMIC: Clear texts of the Qur’an and the Hadith do not permit Muslims to join an oppressive and exploitative power structure controlled by anti-Islam forces.
  2. SECULAR: We also indicated that both Bush and Kerry are identical in their views on America’s intervention in the Muslim world. They compete with each other in their support of Israel. Evidently, even from a secular viewpoint, Muslims do not have a horse in this race.
  3. STRATEGIC: After the destruction wrought by Bush, the power structure needs to bring in Kerry to "start anew" in the sense that the oppression carried out may be glossed over. A similar process took place when the one million Iraqi children who died during the Clinton under sanctions and embargo were forgotten as Bush decided to "liberate" Iraq and blame Saddam for the suffering brought about by the sanctions.
Many Muslims who do not understand the American political process think that they will be ineffective and marginalized if they do not participate in the election process. They do not realize that the power structure tries to legitimize itself by seeking the votes of the people. If elections were a natural, democratic process, the contending political parties would not have to spend huge sums of money to coax people to vote.

Those in the American system who are poor, oppressed, downtrodden exploited tend not to vote or not to want to vote. Politicians work hard to convince them that their conditions will improve if they vote. The people, however, know that such assumptions are not true. Hence the power structure has to bend over backwards and try round-the-clock brainwashing to convince people that they should vote.

HOW DOES CHANGE COME ABOUT IN AMERICA?
  1. Dr. Martin Luther King and the civil rights people marched in the streets and faced police dogs and fire hoses. As the movement grew, the power structure realized that it would have to accomodate the Black community to avoid civil dissidence from turning into revolutionary upheaval.
  2. Malcolm X taught separatism and helped African Americans to see that self-respect and economic autonomy are the key to the improvement of the oppressed communities. Black separatism has been much more effective than any right to vote.
  3. As Malcolm X noted, events overseas, such as the Vietnam war, bring about changes in America.. In our own times, Israel is the decisive issue. If Israel is defeated and driven out of the Middle East, the conditions of America’s Muslims will improve rapidly. If Israel successfully continues its genocide against the Palestinians, Muslims in America will remain in a subservient condition.
IF MUSLIMS DO NOT VOTE....

They will emerge as a cohesive and INDEPENDENT FORCE. In the ongoing dialectic of change in America, each group will want Muslim support because everyone will know that MUSLIMS ARE NOT PART OF ANY GROUP and will act in well-thought-out ways based on guidance from the Qur’an and the authentic Hadith.

HOW TO BE EFFECTIVE?

"By the declining day! Surely humankind are losers, except such as have Faith and do good deeds, and (join together) in the mutual teaching of Truth, and of Patience and Constancy." [The Qura’n 103:1-3]

"The believers, men and women, are protecting friends of each other: they enjoin what is just, and forbid what is evil. They observe regular prayer, practice regular charity, and obey Allah and his messenger. On them will Allah pour His mercy: for Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise." [9:71]
  1. Muslims in America are highly educated and upwardly mobile. If they get Islamic leadership, they can use communication skills to spread their ideas throughout America. They can create independent newspapers and information channels in radio and TV.
    1. Numerous small radio, TV and print media are available even now for Muslim viewpoints.
The Muslims who go there should know how to communicate and not try to be defensive.
  2. Muslims can use the law to defend themselves. More and more Muslims should become attorneys and use the law to protect Muslims, just as the Prophet (pbuh) and his Companions were protected by the tribal system’s honor code when they were vulnerable.
  3. Millions of people in America are sick and tired of the exploitation and degradation of humanity being perpetrated by the power structure not only among African-Americans and Hispanics but among large numbers of White people too. Muslims should be supporting all exploited and oppressed people. "Be there, where its happening."
  4. The exploitation of women is a horrendous reality in America. More than 4,000,000 women are battered by their spouses and boyfriends every year. Women have been persuaded, on a mass scale, to behave and look like prostitutes in the service of the consumer culture. Women are desperately looking for a way out of this Madison Avenue driven trap. A committed Islamic leadership can bring millions of women into Islam and in support of Islam.
  5. American Muslims have tremendous resources. Now that Muslim charities for overseas have been largely blocked by the U.S. government, large sums should be made available to fight for the rights of political prisoners and prisoners in general right here in America.
    1. We must stop the construction of million dollar "White Elephant" mosques and make resources available for street corner mosques in the areas where the people live [not in expensive suburbia].
  6. Mosques should be rooted in the communities where they are built. Do not build a mosque where no Da’wah has been done. All these immigrant mosques which do not have even 1% indigenous membership after 20 years of existence should close down. They are no more than social clubs for the "brain drain" of the Muslim world.
    [To be continued, inshallah]

The Editor,
The Halifax Herald .

Dear Editor:

Howard Heyman [Letter Oct. 11] regurgitates the outrageous falsehoods put forward by Israel attempting to justify its war of naked aggression against Egypt in June 1967 and its illegal occupation of Sinai, the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and the Syrian Golan Heights.

Israel's propagandists claimed, as Mr. Heyman does here, that President Nasser of Egypt was planning, in June 1967, to attack and destroy Israel. This falsehood is best answered by Israel's leaders' own words:

Yitzhak Rabin, chief of staff of the Israeli army at the time, stated :" I do not think Nasser wanted war. The two divisions he sent to the Sinai would not have been sufficient to launch an offensive war. He knew it and we knew it." {Le Monde, Feb. 28,1968}.

Prime Minister Levi Eshkol stated :" The Egyptian layout in the Sinai and the general military build up there testified to a military defensive Egyptian set-up, south of Israel" [ Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot, Oct. 18,1967].

Modechai Bentov, an Israeli cabinet minister at the time, stated: " All this story about the danger of extermination [of Israel in June 1967] has been a complete invention and has been blown up a poseriori to justify the annexation of Arab territory" [ Al Hamishmar, 14 April 1972, and quoted in Le Monde, 3 June 1972].

Menachem Begin, a cabinet minister in June 1967, stated, while prime minister, addressing Israel's National Defence College, on Aug. 8,1982, : " In June 1967, we again had a choice. The Egyptian army concentrations in the Sinai did not prove Nasser was really about to attack us. We must be honest with our selves. We decided to attack him" [The N.Y. Times, Aug. 21,1982].

Mr. Heyman states that Egypt occupied Gaza in 1967. Egypt and Jordan held the Gaza Strip and the Weest Bank, respectively, after May 15, 1948 in their ineffective attempt to prevent Israel from occupying all the territories that were apportioned to the Arab state in Palestine in accordance with the UN Partition scheme resolution # 181, of Nov. 29, 1947, and put to a halt Israel's systematic ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians from their homeland.

Israel stands today in violation of scores of UN resolutions, including UN resolution # 194, stipulatimg the right of return for Palestinian refugees expelled by Israel.

If Israel truly cares for the security of its citizens, it should comply with international law and UN resolutions, and thus security for Israelis and Palestinians will be assured.

Yours sincerely,

Ismail Zayid, MD.
