This attorney has worked with prisoners in the group known

prisoners.

LAHORE: JAN 21: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Sirajul Haq has
said the ruling troika is directly responsible for inflation
and collapse to the national economy.
Addressing a protest rally against skyrocketing inflation at
The Mall on Saturday, he reminded the PDM and the PPP about
their anti-inflation rallies and long marches, questioning
both about their performance since April.
He said there was continuation in the policies of the
incumbent government of the PDM and the former government of
the PTI. He said the ruling elite was in consensus that they
would keep the people deprived even from basic needs.
Careless of the fact that common man was standing in queues
to purchase a bag of flour, the rulers were badly engaged in
their fight for the protection of self-interest.
Haq linked the inflation, poverty and economic disaster to
the corruption and unfair distribution of national
resources. Had there been a strong system of accountability,
majority of the so-called leaders of the main political
parties would have been in prison, he said.
The JI chief said the governments had never used foreign
loans for public welfare or set the direction of the
national economy. Instead, he added, the money went to the
pockets of the rulers. Instead of putting burden on the
public, the ruling parties and their leaders should have
paid the public debt from their own accounts.
He said the rulers looted the resources and made the country
a laughing stock in all over the work. Pakistan, he said,
was gifted with enormous resources but the issue was their
fair distribution.
He said the ruling troika was badly exposed and failed to
fix the problems. They had been given opportunity to serve
the country repeatedly but they disappointed the masses on
every occasion, he said. Haq added the country needed honest
and capable leadership and only the JI had the ability to
put Pakistan on track. He appealed to the people to vote for
the JI in coming election instead of father testing the
already tested troika.

was raising flags of Zainab and Hussain. The city opposes

In each case, half the population supports those who attack
Muslim countries.

Apologies for Slavery without Reparations are not Enough.
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte offered an official apology
for the Netherlands' participation in slavery, at the
National Archives in The Hague, The Netherlands, 19 December 2022
On December 19, 2022, the Netherlands became the first
Western nation to formally apologise for participating in
and profiting from the transatlantic trade of enslaved people.
Speaking at the National Archives in The Hague, Dutch Prime
Minister Mark Rutte apologised on behalf of his government
for the country's role in slavery, calling it "ugly,
painful, and even downright shameful".
"For hundreds of years, people were made merchandise,
exploited and abused in the name of the Dutch state," Rutte
said. "For that, I offer the apologies of the Dutch
government."
That the Dutch government finally found the courage to fully
acknowledge and officially apologize for its role in
"abetting, stimulating, preserving and profiting from
centuries of slave trading" is highly commendable.
But the paths to reconciliation and healing suggested by the
government are equally underwhelming.
In his apology, Rutte admitted that "centuries of oppression
and exploitation still have an effect to this very day" and
talked about "doing justice to the past and healing in the
p\o kick-start this healing process, the Dutch PM said, his
government will work to "enhance knowledge of the history of
slavery" and to "ensure more awareness, acknowledgement and
understanding". To this end, he announced the creation of a
200-million-euro ($216m) fund to help tackle the legacy of
slavery and boost education.
Yet nowhere in his landmark apology Rutte expressed an
intention to take the one action descendants of enslaved
people repeatedly said would make the biggest difference in
righting the wrongs of the past: pay reparations.
The Netherlands, like most Western nations, owes the immense
economic prosperity it is experiencing today in part to the
profits it made from slavery.
In 2019, a five-year research project funded by the Dutch
Research Council titled "Slaves, commodities and logistics"
concluded that "economic activities related to the slave
trade between Europe, Africa and America made a significant
contribution to Dutch prosperity in the second half of the
eighteenth century".
According to the study, in the reference year 1770, some
5.2 percent of the Dutch gross domestic product (GDP) was
based on the transatlantic trade of enslaved people - a
contribution almost equivalent to that of the entire port of
Rotterdam today
