Do many Muslims openly ignore the teachings of the Qur'an and the hadith?
By Kaukab Siddique, PhD

Will Jesus, pbuh, return to fill the world with justice?

The Qur'an does not say that Jesus Pbuh, will return.

The belief system of Islam is clearly stated in the Qur'an 2:177. Most Muslims do not know this.

Jesus is discussed in the Qur'an with great reverence as is his mother, Mary or Maryam, pbuh. Nowhere does the Qur'an say that he will return.

My understanding is that Muslims have lived long under tyrants and kings who had absolute power over their lives and it lead them to a desire for a savior.

Conquest and colonialism by the western powers created an even deeper sense of helplessnes.

The Prophet Muhammad, pbuh, and the rightly guided Caliphs did not teach Muslims to wait for a savior.

The Qur'an and the authentic hadith teach resistance, struggle, self-purification, freeing the slaves, giving women and oppressed people their rights.

Every Muslim has the duty to fulfill these imperatives to the best of their ability.

Pakistan appeals against freeing Islamists convicted of U.S. journalist Pearl's beheading
By Syed Raza Hassan, Asif Shahzad (Reuters)

Pakistan's government on Friday appealed to the Supreme Court to review its decision to free a British-born Islamist and three others convicted of beheading U.S. journalist Daniel Pearl in 2002.

The United States has expressed concern over the ruling and top U.S. diplomat Antony Blinken repeated a call for accountability in his first phone call with Pakistan's foreign minister on Friday.

A panel of three judges of the court on Thursday acquitted Ahmad Omar Saeed Sheikh and three other Islamists, who had been convicted in 2002 on charges of kidnapping and murder of the Wall Street Journal reporter.

The court ordered the men to be released forthwith if not required in any other case.

The government in Sindh province filed a petition asking the top court to review its decision, the Pearl family's lawyer, Faisal Siddiqi, and a government prosecutor told Reuters.

"We have filed three review petitions," prosecutor Faiz Shah said, explaining that the petitions would seek a reversal of the acquittal and the reinstatement of Sheikh's death penalty.

"Being aggrieved of and dissatisfied with the judgment, the petitioner files an instant criminal review petition for leave to appeal on matters of law, facts and grounds," the petition said.

The release orders would stand irrespective of the review petition, provincial law minister Murtaza Wahab told Reuters.

"We haven't received the release orders yet," he said, adding that the Islamists were not likely to be freed over the weekend, as it usually takes some days for court orders to be sent to prison authorities.

Pearl, 38, was investigating Islamist militants in Karachi after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States when he was kidnapped. A video of his beheading emerged weeks later.

His parents expressed shock over the Supreme Court's decision

Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Friday "reinforced" U.S. concern over the case in a call with Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Pakistan's minister of foreign affairs, according to the State Department.

The two "discussed how to ensure accountabliity" for Sheikh and others resposible for Pearl's kidnapping and murder, according to a readout of a call.

On Thursday, Blinken called the ruling "an affront to terrorism victims everywhere, including in Pakistan" and said Washington was prepared to prosecute Sheikh in the United States.

JI mass rally
Pakistan is under International Lending Agencies

Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Senator Sirajul Haq has said that ruling elite has put the nation under slavery of international lending agencies.

"Past and the present rulers have put the national integrity and economy at stake by borrowing huge amount from the World Bank and the IMF. The masses are on the receiving end," he said while addressing a huge gathering at Company Bagh on Sunday.

People from all walks of life including women and children participated in the event aimed at mobilizing masses against rising inflation, unemployment and corruption. The participants continued waving national and JI flags during the proceedings. They chanted slogans against the rulers and in favor of JI leadership. JI Northern Punjab Emir Dr Tariq Saleem, JI Information Secretary Qaisar Sharif and JI Youth Pakistan President Zubair Gondal were also present on occasion.

Senator Siraj said that Prime Minister Imran Khan promised bringing real change but failed to deliver. What to say of health and education, when the masses were not getting even portable water, he said, adding the PM continued talking about not giving NRO when even the flour was not in the reach of common man.

"People want food and not hollow slogans and false promises." The PM, he said, had taken so much U-Turns that now it was difficult to count. He (Imran Khan) miserably failed on every front, said Sirajul Haq. The ruling elite should understand that their days were numbered as people were no more ready to sit silent, he said. The time, he said, had come to get rid of the decades old corrupt system.

"The masses will not let the rulering flee. They [rulers] will be held accountable for their misdeeds."

A durable Islamic democratic society was the only solution of prevailing crises, he said, urging the masses to support the JI struggle for achieving the destination.

Iraq
Commander Abu Yasir Killed?

January 27: Two Typhoon jet bombers of the British air force struck two caves in central Iraq where ISIS fighters were suspected of hiding. A comment we have is that a Typhoon costs 80 million British pounds. Attacking a cave with a Typhoon does not make economic sense.

The Brits thought they killed a senior IS commander Abu Yasir al-Issawi. However Charles Linden, a Director of a Washington Think Tank, Middle East Institute wrote that the report of killing Abu Yasir may not be correct.

New Trend notes that Yasir was one of the most dedicated Companions of the Prophet Muhammad, pbuh. The commander naming his son after Yasir, r.a., indicates the Islamic dedication of these fighters.

Syria
Several Brigades Switch Sides.
January 31. The Syrian Observatory, SOHR, reports that several brigades of the mujahideen force known as Ahrar al Sham, which was protecting an area supporting Turkey in north central Syria has switched sides. It is now joining ISIS.

Around southern Irbid province Assad forces and HTS forces continued heavy machine gun and mortar fire all day.

Large explosions in the towns of Afrin and Azaz, near the Turkish border, in Aleppo province killed scores of civilians, including children. Communist Kurds [YPG] are suspected.

Heavy rains and floods have added to the misery in refugee camps in northern Irbid province.

In Deraa province, the Assad regime has sent in military units after growing unrest and attacks by fighters who had made cease fire with Assad under Russian province.

In Hasakeh, north eastern Syria, a part of the city controlled by Assad is under siege by local fighting forces.

Pakistan
The military is reporting that it has killed 10 "militants" including two local commanders.

Kashmir and the Passivity of the World Powers.
Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai
January 27, 2021

"It represents a Government's repression not of a secessionist or separatist movement but of an uprising against foreign occupation".

On India's Republic Day, the people of Jammu & Kashmir extend their warm felicitation to the people of India. It is on January 26 that India celebrates its Republic Day to honor the date on which the Indian Constitution came into force. Kashmiris, however, voice deep regret over betrayal of Indian Government -- not the people of India -- of her high-minded ideals in Kashmir that marked its entry into the family of nations after long years under the British raj: shocking human rights violations, contempt for international law and binding self-determination resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.

The Kashmir question is one of the oldest unresolved international problems pending on the agenda of the Security Council.. There are certain characteristics of the situation in Kashmir, which distinguish it from all other deplorable human rights situations around the world.
  1. It prevails in what is recognized - under international law - as a disputed territory. According to the international agreements between India and Pakistan, negotiated by the United Nations and endorsed by the Security Council, the territory's status is to be determined by the free vote of its people under U.N. supervision.

  2. It represents a Government's repression not of a secessionist or separatist movement but of an uprising against foreign occupation, an occupation that was expected to end under determinations made by the United Nations. The Kashmiris are not and cannot be called separatists because they cannot secede from a country to which they have never acceded to in the first place.

  3. It has been met with studied unconcern by the United Nations. This has given a sense of total impunity to India. It has also created the impression that the United Nations is invidiously selective about the application of the principles of human rights and democracy. There is a glaring contrast between the outcry over the massacres in certain areas, on the one side, and the official silence (barring some faint murmurs of disapproval) over the killing and maiming of a vastly greater number of civilians in Kashmir and the systematic violation of the 1949 Geneva Convention. This is not merely a case of passivity and inaction; in practical effect, it amounts to an abetment and encouragement of murderous tyranny. If tyranny is not condoned inside the territory of a member state of the United Nations, is there not greater reason for the United Nations to intervene when the territory is one whose disposition is to be determine through a free and fair vote under the impartial auspices of the world organization.

  4. It is a paradoxical case of the United Nations being deactivated and rendered unable to address a situation to which it had devoted a number of resolutions and in which it had established a presence, though with a limited mandate. The United Nations Military Observers Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) is one of the oldest peacekeeping operations of the U.N.; the force is stationed in Kashmir to observe the cease-fire between India and Pakistan.

  5. Kashmir is the only international dispute where the solution of the conflict - right to self-determination -- was suggested by the parties themselves, India and Pakistan. Mahatma Gandhi has said: "If the people of Kashmir are in favor of opting for Pakistan, no power on earth can stop them from doing so. But they should be left free to decide for themselves." (Gandhi's Passion by Professor Stanley Wolpert, Page 247).

  6. Kashmir is the only region which shares its borders with three nuclear powers of the world - India, Pakistan & China. The potential of nuclear war has always been there between India and Pakistan, now because of the Chinese element that potential is now real. The uncertainty over Kashmir will lead not only India and Pakistan to disaster but it will also destroy any possibility of bringing peace and stability to Afghanistan.

All these peculiarities of the Kashmir situation become more baffling in view of the fact that the mediatory initiative which would halt the violations of human rights and set the stage for a solution would entail no deployment of United Nations forces, no financial outlays and no adversarial relations with India.

In this context, the following considerations are most pertinent for an assessment of the dispute by the world powers.

When the Kashmir dispute erupted in 1947-1948, the United States, Great Britain, China, France, Canada, Argentina, Belgium, Columbia, championed the stand that the future status of Kashmir must be ascertained in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people of the territory. The U.S. was a principal sponsor of the resolution # 47 which was adopted by the Security Council on 21 April 1948 and which was based on that unchallenged principle. The basic formula for settlement was incorporated in the resolutions of the United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan (UNCIP) adopted on 13 August 1948 and 5 January 1949.

These are not resolutions in the routine sense of the term. Their provisions were negotiated in detail by the UN Commission with India and Pakistan and it was only after the consent of both Governments was explicitly obtained that they were endorsed by the Security Council. They thus constitute a binding and solemn international agreement about the settlement of the Kashmir dispute.

Currently the policy of world powers has led the Indian Government to believe that all it needs is some political maneuvering to dissipate foreign concern over the appalling situation in Kashmir. Dr. Syed Nazir Gilani said it best, "We should pull down the heavens and roof of the United Nations, alert our friends all over the world, point out that the notification on 35A was a serious violation of UN Resolutions on Kashmir, a violation of the agreement between Government of India with the people of Kashmir and a violation of the agreements between India and Pakistan."

The Trump Administration at first showed some concern at least over the savagery of the Indian occupation in Kashmir. However, after the Howdy Modi event which was jointly attended by Prime Minister Modi and President Trump, there seems to have been a tilt towards India. It is plausible that the tilt has been caused by the prospect of profitable American investments in that large country. As Americans, we appreciate the importance of expanding economic relations between the U.S. and India. But who knows it better than newly elected President Joseph Biden as a global diplomat that American investments in India will remain exposed to grave danger as long as the South Asian Subcontinent remains a scene of continuing strife, with the specter of war always in the horizon and a nuclear exchange not an impossibility. Even from a purely economic perspective, if not from concern over peace, genuine democracy and observance of human rights, the restoration of normalcy in South Asia deserves to be a policy goal for the world's only superpower - the United States. The Kashmir dispute being the key cause of conflict, its marginalization can hardly serve long-term American interests.

Without reservation, it can be said that if anybody becomes instrumental in resolving the Kashmir dispute - the bone of contention between the two very potentially dangerous countries - deserves not only the Nobel Peace Prize but also a special place in history.. Biden's election campaign is on record to have said: "In Kashmir, the Indian government should take all necessary steps to restore rights for all the people of Kashmir?" And Vice President Kamala Harris went one step further, "We have to remind Kashmiris that they are not alone in the world." Let us keep reminding Biden Administration that after all a promise is a promise.

Crimes against women within the community
by Sis. Aisha
[Jamaat al-Muslimeen, New York]

New York City - What is the price a woman must for saying, "No" to a man? This past week was a particularly busy week for Shai'tan in Harlem.

On January 18, 2021, a 31-year-old woman stopped by a Harlem liquor store, after work, to buy some wine. In the store, a young man asked the woman if he could buy the wine for her and she politely declined his request. What happened next is unconscionable!

The woman was followed outside by the young man and his three friends, who accused her of thinking she was better than they were. While his friends beat, kicked, and spat on this young mother, the young man bit her face, repeatedly! They then stole her iPhone and fled. What is even more horrifying is that no one helped this woman. Not even people from the liquor store or other neighboring stores came to her aid. It was around 6 pm, which is rush hour.

 Harlem NY USA

On January 23rd, there was a rally in front of the same Harlem liquor store where the attack occurred. Many attendees, which included the victim's family, demanded justice. There was a second rally held at 3 pm on January 30th, in front of the same liquor store. It was a small but decent turnout for such frigid weather. The Muslims were definitely present at this rally.

The general consensus was that black men and women should not be enemies. The importance of the community holding itself accountable was also stressed. Many of the elder speakers warned gatherers about relying too much on the police and government to prevent this type of pathology. They encouraged people to become more involved instead of being spectators when these disturbing incidents occur.

 Harlem NY USA

Male supremacy is the root of male chauvinism. This oppressive ideology rules American society. Men who adopt this supremacist attitude believe that they have the right to inflict harm on the women, including take their lives!

This was a very savage, vicious attack carried out by Satan's helpers. The store surveillance captured a clear shot of these guys' faces, who entered without wearing any masks. It was also revealed at the January 30th rally that two women were with these guys and were involved in the attack. I pray that someone will inform on these derelicts, insha'allah.

An even more disturbing incident occurred on January 26th. Fatamouta Danson, a 39-year-old mother of six children, was gunned down by her eldest son, Musa Camara, who has a history of mental illness. Why????

For telling this 22-year-old man to get a job!

This Muslim mother let her son know that she did not approve of his laziness and she paid for it with her life. She already had a restraining order against him. It was reported that the police had been to her residence many times to intervene in altercations between Fatamouta and her son. In the last altercation, Musa Camara body-slammed his mother and told her he would kill her. The NYPD gave her an alert button to press whenever she felt threatened. This "panic button" did not help, her son killed her quicker than any heart attack could.

Fatamouta Danson and her family arrived from The Gambia and Sierra Leone in the 1990s seeking a better life. Her other son, Mohammed Danson and his girlfriend, Layda Miranda, have set up a GoFund Me site to help with funeral expenses and his other siblings. The $10,000 goal has been surpassed by over $15,000!

Self-entitlement is a major problem in this country. People, particularly males, just don't like being told, "No!" or being given a directive of any kind. It is not just dysfunctional families. There are negative external influences, as well. There seems to be an inability to teach life skills to children. Some schools and outside programs offer life skills classes. Besides enabling-parents who turn a blind eye to disrespectful children, the lack of life skills being taught can possibly be attributed to just plain busy parents.

Many of these parents are underemployed barely making enough to pay all of their bills at the same time. They say they are sacrificing for their children but eventually sacrifice their children, instead. It is extremely difficult in a one parent home but, this chaos can happen in a two parent home, as well. There are more never-employed adult children living at home with their suffering parents who just don't know what to do.

Offering life skills classes may become mandated in public schools the way sex education did.

Hadith of the Week

Narrated by
Abu Huraira, r.a.:
One day while the Prophet was sitting in the company of some people, (The angel) Gabriel came and asked, "What is faith?" Allah's Apostle replied,
'Faith is to believe in Allah, His angels, (the) meeting with Him, His Apostles, and to believe in Resurrection."
Then he further asked, "What is Islam?" Allah's Apostle replied, "To worship Allah Alone and none else, to offer prayers perfectly to pay the compulsory charity (Zakat) and to observe fasts during the month of Ramadan."
Then he further asked,
"What is Ihsan (perfection)?" Allah's Apostle replied,
"To worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you cannot achieve this state of devotion then you must consider that He is looking at you." Then he further asked, "When will the Hour be established?" Allah's Apostle replied, "The answerer has no better knowledge than the questioner. But I will inform you about its portents.
  1. When a slave (lady) gives birth to her master.
  2. When the shepherds of black camels start boasting and competing with others in the construction of higher buildings.

And the Hour is one of five things which nobody knows except Allah.
The Prophet then recited:
"Verily, with Allah (Alone) is the knowledge of the Hour." (31.34) Then that man (Gabriel) left and the Prophet asked his companions to call him back, but they could not see him.
Then the Prophet said,
"That was Gabriel who came to teach the people their religion."
Abu 'Abdullah said: He (the Prophet) considered all that as a part of faith.

 Islamic Thought

Du'a

from Imam Badi Ali

The desires of this world are like sea water. The more you drink of them, the more you thirst.

When we start chasing the dunya for the dunya's sake, instead of using it as a means to our real goal (pleasing Allah) that is when our priorities become mixed up. And we start to suffer from a serious spiritual disease.

What's given to dunya is lost forever. What's given to Allah is never lost.

May Allah enable us to remember that the material things of this world are temporary and the Hereafter is more important for us.

Ameen.

 Uyghurs

China's Police Data Base on the Repression of Uighur Muslims has been uncovered by The Intercept.
Here is an excerpt:

Systematic Repression of the entire Muslim Population in Sinkiang, China, Uncovered.

Ayup has experience with this sort of monitoring. While in Kashgar, Ayup operated a Uyghur-language kindergarten and promoted Uyghur-language education. He fled China after 15 months of detention, during which he said he was interrogated and tortured. After leaving, Ayup said at one point he joined a WeChat group for the Chinese embassy. "When I went to the Chinese embassy, they asked me to join their WeChat group, and when I joined, a Chinese spy in Ürümqi found me; he talked to me and he threatened me," he said.

Even holding a passport is considered suspicious. Documents in the database indicate Uyghur passport holders are checked on by authorities more frequently than those without passports.

Indeed, any knowledge of life outside of Xinjiang can be flagged as suspicious. For example, police in Weihuliang took note in one weekly report, among "people who need special attention," of four people who had traveled to Beijing "to reflect local issues." "The rest have never left the region, so they're seen as safer," Byler said.

Even phone calls or text chats involving outside countries invite scrutiny from authorities in Xinjiang. In Tianshan, the historic and majority-Uyghur center of Ürümqi, authorities reported sending a professional driver to re-education following an unusual phone call to a "key country." Zenz believes the "key country" is one in a group of 26 largely Muslim "focus" countries watched by authorities. Xinjiang authorities have targeted people with connections to these countries for interrogation, detention and even imprisonment, according to a report by Human Rights Watch. The countries include Afghanistan, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Libya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, South Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and Yemen.

 Coronavirus

Coronavirus Variants: More Contagious and Evasive.

When the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 burst upon the world last winter, scientists knew it was bad. But they also thought it was stable. Coronaviruses do not mutate as readily as the viruses that cause the flu, hepatitis or AIDS, for instance-thanks in part to a molecular "proofreading" system that SARS-CoV-2 and its kin use to prevent damaging genetic errors when replicating.

Researchers were only partly right. The virus is indeed bad -but it is not so stable after all. SARS-CoV-2 has been acquiring minor random mutations ever since it jumped from animals to humans. These mutations can take the form of single-letter typos in the viral genetic code or deletions or insertions of longer stretches. When they occur, most mutations either kill the virus or cause no change in its structure or behavior.

But in recent months, several new variants of the original virus (also called the wild type) have been spotted that appear to cause major changes in the way the pathogen acts, including alterations to its contagiousness. These viral versions have seemingly popped up in rapid succession in different geographical regions, such as the U.K., South Africa and Brazil, and in some cases have outcompeted the existing variants. Although improved surveillance and sequencing efforts might partly explain why these variants are appearing now, some repetition in their patterns suggest the mutations are not random.

"What we're seeing is similar mutations arising in multiple places," says Adam Lauring, a virologist at the University of Michigan. "That's pretty suggestive that these mutations are doing something."

Specifically, they appear to help the virus transmit more readily and evade the immune system.

Thus far, vaccines made by Moderna and Pfizer seem to work against the new variants, although Moderna has begun developing a booster shot specific to new variants. Because these two vaccines are more than 90 percent effective, a slight drop in effectiveness would still make them worth using, experts say.

"I'm optimistic this won't compromise the [COVID vaccines], but obviously, it's something we've got to watch closely," Lauring says. In coming years, he adds, companies may need to retool these vaccines and administer updated versions, much in the same way that flu vaccines are revised each year.
