Hadith of the Week

Narrated by Al-Nawawi, r.a.:

Abdullah ibn Sarjis reported: The Prophet, pbuh, would say when he traveled:

"O Allah, you are the companion on the journey and the caretaker of the family. O Allah, accompany us on our journey and take care of our families. I seek refuge in you from the hardship of travel, returning in sorrow, loss after gain, the supplication of the oppressed, and the evil glance at our families and property."

 Palestine

39 demonstrators shot with live ammunition, one killed, on Gaza's 68th Friday march

On the 68th Great March of Return, 71 Palestinian civilians were injured due to the Israeli military's continued use of excessive force against peaceful protests along the Gaza Strip's eastern border. At least 30 children, 3 women and a paramedic were among those injured this Friday, 26 July 2019. Thirty-nine civilians were shot with live bullets and 4 of them sustained moderate to serious wounds. Today's protest, which lasted from 16:30 to 19:30, was titled "Palestinians Refugees of Lebanon", and involved activities such as speeches by political leaders and theatrical performances. Dozens of civilians protested at varied distances from the border fence across the Gaza Strip, and were met with Israeli soldiers' excessive force despite no imminent threat to the soldiers' lives. Despite reports that the Israeli military changed their open-fire strategy against the Great March of Return protesters and ordered soldiers to aim at their ankles; PCHR's fieldworkers documented the injury of many protesters in their upper extremities, including 4 that sustained moderate to serious wounds.

As such, this asserts Israel's relentless insistence on the unjustified policy of using excessive force.

Nigeria's Shia Group has a Brutal history.
Behind the case of Zakzaky

By Abdulkabir Oyemomi

Unfortunately , many people have forgotten that Ibrahim El-ZakZaky did not just start his violent approach of institutionalizing Islamic States of Iran in another sovereign entity of Nigeria.

El-ZakyZaky started this activities of imposing Iran's style on unsuspecting Muslims in the campus of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU). This fact culminated in his being denied of his first class degree certificate of Economics, when he founded this dreadful group called Islamic Movement group to replicate the Iran's revolution at the time.

The aim of IMN from time is to form a parallel government against that of Federal Republic of Nigeria. He was detained for his violent idea in Enugu between 1981-1984; he was detained in Lagos Kirikiri Maximum Security in 1985; his group rebellious act brought about the killing of 35 people in Zaria Qudus Day of 2014; his group was allegedly responsible for the killing of Imam Umar Danmaishiyya in 2007 for preaching against Shiite ideology.

Ibrahim El-ZakyZaky' s Shiite group were source of fear to people and even the government of Kaduna States because they were unstoppable and rascally at the Qudus day Celebration that are characterized by all sorts of thuggery activities: they rape, they loot, they block ways. All citizens of Zaria are living witnesses to this, except members of IMN who always deny the obvious.

The present governor of Kaduna State , Mallam Nasir El-Rufai claims that there are three types of Shia in Kaduna State, but that the only violent one which does not recognize the government of Federal Republic of Nigeria is IMN, led by Ibrahim El-ZakyZaky. He confirms that this group owes allegiance to the Islamic States of Iran.

In an interview with Channels Television last week, El-Rufai stated that he was a schoolmate of Elzakyzaky's in ABU and both were active members of Muslim Students before Elzakyzaky's formation of Islamic Movement that tended to bring discord to the Muslim Society in the campus. El-ZakyZaky was thereafter suspended . His words, " there are three Shi'ah groups in Kaduna State. Only Elzakyzaky's disciples are terrorists, consisting of thugs who don't recognize the President, the governor and even the Constitution of Nigeria as a sovereign state.
"If anyone is considered a threat to the security of Nigeria as sovereign entity such a person or persons would be put away.

"You cannot blackmail the government. El-ZakyZaky would face the law at the appropriate time.

This terrorists group of Shi'ah had staged various violent protests across the Abuja metropolis within the spate of weeks. The most recent protest of theirs saw to the killing of a senior police officer, DCP Umar, who was in charge of operations at the Federal Capital Territory police command.

Punch Newspaper reported that Umar was gunned down as he tried to pacify the rampaging Shitte members who disrupted commercial activities and vehicular movements during their protest at the Federal Secretariats of Abuja on the 22nd of July,2019.

A Channels Television's reporter (Owolabi Precious) was also reported killed by the protesters.

It is necessary for the government to wipe out these known terrorists from Nigeria soil. It is therefore worthwhile if the government can yield the recent call of Iran government that Elzakyzaky be sent to them for proper medical care.
El-ZakyZaky is the making of Iran and invariably their property; let him be banned from Nigeria as he never recognized Nigerian Government as his.Let him reside whit the government to which he owes allegiance.

Editorial

 Dr Kaukab Siddique

Relevance of Ibn Taymiyyah to our times.
[Notes by Kaukab Siddique.]

"And be ye not as those who became sects and differed after the clear proofs had come unto them. For such there is an awful doom. [The Qur'an 3:105]

"In Your Name, I die and live." [Prophet Muhammad, pbuh. Hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari, #7395]

One of the greatest teachers of Islam is Ibn Taymiyyah second only to the sahaba and the tabbain [who followed the sahaba].

Ibn Taymiyya's times were somewhat like ours. He was born in 611 hijri and died in 728 hijri. The Mongols had destroyed Baghdad, Like the Russians did in Afghanistan and the Americans are doing today, the Mongols were slaughtering entire Muslim populations. From the West, the crusaders were threatening the entire Muslim ummah, like America is doing today.

Most dangerously, within the Muslim populations, sects had become so strong that they were inviting Muslims to accept their deviant dogmas. Again look at our world where sects and deviations are rampant in the Muslim world. These sectarians were cooperating with the Mongols and the crusaders to undermine the Islamic resistance.

Look at the sects in America with strange teachings that God came down in the shape of a human or that "Yaqub" is somewhere up there or "Ahmeddis" are Muslims. Then there are national divisions among Muslim immigrants. They are so divided that they cannot even dare to speak against Israel or the bombing and occupation of Muslim countries.

Again Ibn Taymiyyah is relevant. He not only spoke and wrote against sects and worship at graves of "saints" he actually fought against the invaders, both Mongols and crusaders.

The Zionist propaganda machine in America has encouraged weak and deviant Muslims to attack Hadith. There can be no Islam without hadith, never has been and never will be. The Zionists know that many easy going Muslims do not study hadith and will easily be influenced by attacks on hadith, specially if these attacks are carried out by people with Muslim names.

Study of the struggle of Ibn Taymiyya is very valuable because he used hadith to demolish the superstitions and deviations of sectarians, mystics and hostile outsiders. His scholarship has few equals even today.

Islam is based on the Qur'an and the authentic hadith. Views of scholars and saints are not part of Islam. Interpretation may be helpful but in itself it should not be confused with Islamic texts.

Sects are forbidden in Islam. Attempts to claim prophethood after the last Prophet, Muhammad, pbuh, are absolutely not allowed.

Prayers to dead people however pious they may have been, asking them to ask Allah to give us what we want is a deadly sin called SHIRK in Islam

Islam is very straightforward. Pray 5 times a day as taught by the prophet, pbuh, and call on Allah, ask Allah for what you want or need. No one other than Allah can fulfil our prayers and there is no sacred text giving anyone the right to fulfil prayers.

Sects are supported by imperialist, kafir, powers to divide the Ummah of Islam and to subvert the teachings of Islam.

Today the teachings of the Qur'an and hadith are reverberating around the globe owing to the teachings of Ibn Taymiyya, built upon by Usman dan Fodio and the Sokoto and Sudan caliphate, Muhammad ibn Abdel Wahhab, Allama Iqbal, Syed Qutb, Maulana Maudoodi [and countless others].
The Ummah of Islam is one Ummah, from Morocco to the Philippines, from Afghanistan to Nigeria. America's Muslims rightfully belong to the global Ummah [as Malcolm X found out]. Let's not become a sect in this country.

PAKISTAN

 Pakistan

Incompetence of PTI.
Meeting Trump will not Solve Pakistan's Problems.
by Qaiser Sharif

LAHORE, July 25; Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq, has said that US President Donald Trump's handshake and smiles could please the rulers but won't help solve the problems facing the country.

Addressing the workers convention at Timargarh, he said that every past government had been trumpeting over the friendship with the US whereas Washington had always used our rulers for its own objectives He said the American intellectuals themselves admitted that the US friendship as well its enmity both were most dangerous.

He said that the so called major political parties of the country had been exploiting the masses in the past but the PTI had set new records of incompetence and poor governance within one year. He said that the "PTI Tabdeeli" struck like a storm and ransacked each and every thing.

The JI chief said that the politics of hue and cry and threats would not work

He said that as and when the government tried to stifle the voice of the masses, pushed the opposition to the wall or placed curbs on the media, the government itself had to suffer.

He said that the country needed the services of talented youth for steering the ship of the country out of the crisis. He said the JI would train the youth in politics and field them in public life.

Sirajul Haq said that Pakistan's future could be bright only with the enforcement of the Nizam e Mustafa and added that the JI was struggling for the same noble objective.

He said there was no difference between the past governments and the PTI government as the same old faces that had been in the past civil government and the Musharraf dictatorship were to be seen in the present cabinet. These were failed and incompetent people who had been coming to power with catchy slogans and rosy promises but always created more complications for the country and the people.

He said that only the honest and sincere leadership of the JI and its dedicated workers could bring about a real change.

LIAQAT
LAHORE, July 25; Deputy chief of the Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has stressed upon the JI workers to prepare for the local government elections and convince the masses that the solution of their problems lay in the system given by Allah Almighty.

Addressing the participants of the JI central workshop at Mansoora, he said the people had tried the PPP, the PML(N) as also the PTI. He said the civil as well as military governments had been unable to solve the problems facing the masses.

He said the JI leadership known for its integrity and competence, could pull the country out of the present mess.

Liaqat Baloch said that US President Trump had issued a certificate to Prime Minister Imran Khan as a big leader. He said the Pakistani rulers had always tried to earn the good will of Washington. However, he said, the US or Europe would not help solve the Kashmir issue. He further said it was to be seen if the CPEC had not become insecure after the Prime Minister's visit, whether there was any secret deal on Kashmir or any move for winding up the laws related to the Khatme Nubuwwat. He said the nation must be vigilant in this respect.

Renting in America?
by Sis. Aisha [Jamaat al-Muslimeen]

Harlem, NY - Here in New York City the world is, literally, beating a path to our door. There are other major cities that are also experiencing a rise in its populations due to gentrification. You really see evidence of this trend on network programs showcasing local eateries.

I checked in New York and Chicago and the criteria for finding a place to rent through the major property management firms seems to be the same. You will need:

  1. A salary that is 40 times the rent per year. i.e. If the rental you are seeking is $2000 then you will need to have a yearly salary of $80,000.

  2. Six months of rent saved up in your bank account. (i.e. If the rent is $2000, then the landlord wants you to have $12000 or more saved in your bank account.

  3. Last 4 pay stubs.

  4. Employment letter, if you are newly hired, confirming employment and salary.

  5. A credit (fico) score of 650 or higher.

If you are unable to qualify for an apartment on your own, you can get a guarantor to sponsor you and pay your rent for you. However, they would need to make 80 times that rent whatever it may be for that apartment. The guarantor is usually a family member.

Some, if not all of the above criteria is unrealistic and unreasonable. Requirements, such as these, have made it so easy for landlords to eliminate middle income people and cater only to the wealthy. The working-class must move to the outskirts of town for cheaper rents, which means longer commutes to work or school.

The gentrifiers are a tool in the uber-rich landlord's game, too, because once their leases end they must pay even higher rents, if they want to renew their lease! This usually compels them to move elsewhere while a tenant, with even more money, replaces them for the next two years. Gentrifiers are always on the move seeking "reasonable" market rents.

In states such as New York, Virginia, and Illinois, you can use Insurent, which is a service that pays your rent but you would need to put up two-thirds of the rent owed. Rhino is a new service that helps with security deposits.

Of course, there are ways to get around such restrictive renter's criteria. One way to find an apartment without such an unrealistic criteria is to find For Rent by Owner's ads. These are property owners who act without a real estate agent. You can find those in the local newspaper, Craigslist, even real estate agents. There are sites that cater to property owners looking to sell or rent for themselves. Just google "For Rent by Owner" for your local area. It is important to seek other alternatives in the face of oppressive practices!

An astute landlord or landlady may still subject you to a credit or criminal background check, which is fair. But, they usually do not have the ridiculous income requirements that landlords who cater to gentrifiers do.

AirBnB has challenged the hotel industry. This has encouraged homeowners to offer short term rentals, where it is legal to do so, for much less than a hotel. Unfortunately, because of charges of discrimination against some homeowners, who have turned people away based on their race, other AirBnB alternatives have surfaced. Nonetheless, AirBnB has inspired homeowners with space to take control of their income. So, whether your stay is long term or short term, as a renter, you have options. Very empowering!

From our Christian Friends

 Christian Friends

[From our friend Sis. Abigail.]

Muslims are told, in their Holy Book: "O People of the Book, come to a common word between us and you; that we shall worship none but God, and that we shall ascribe no partner unto Him, and that none of us shall take others for lords beside God..." (3:64)

Matthew 5:9: Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.

Romans 12:18: "If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men."

If Christians focused on being peacemakers instead of warmongers, the world would be an entirely different place.
One such group is aiming for peace: General Synod voted July 15 to sign on to "A Common Word Between Us and You" and endorse it as a model for Christian-Muslim dialogue.

"A Common Word" is a letter written in 2007 at the initiative of 138 Muslim scholars, clerics and political figures, according to the Rev. Scott Sharman, animator for ecumenical and interfaith relations, who gave a presentation to General Synod before the motion.

More than 400 Muslim leaders from around the world have since signed on to the letter, which is addressed to Christian leaders and is "an invitation to Christians to dialogue." The title comes from a line from the Qur'an, Sharman said: "O People of the Book, come to a common word between us and you."

The letter extends "an invitation to look at two foundational principles present within both of our respective scriptures: the call to love God above all things, and the call that follows from that, to love our neighbours. Love of God and love of neighbour is the starting ground."

The resolution presented to General Synod involved two steps: becoming, as a church, signatory to the letter, and endorsing it to "use as a model...a kind of Christian-Muslim dialogue starter kit," Sharman said.

The letter presents "a new kind of relationship between Muslims and Christians than has been possible for so much of our history," according to Sharman. "It does not look for agreement, but it seeks to find common ground that could make for peace." Since 2008, the letter has received 70 responses and nearly 200 sign-on endorsements by churches and Christian leaders.

Sharman also gave an example of the kind of interfaith ministry the letter hopes to inspire.

A Common Word Alberta formed in 2012, after an invitation by friends in the Sunni, Shi'a and Ismaili communities, Sharman said. The group was a mix of Anglicans, Lutherans, Mennonites, Roman Catholics and others. "Now, six years later, under the banner of A Common Word Alberta, a group that counts literally thousands of people, Christians and Muslims, are taking part in several occasions throughout the year in discussions of their scriptures, getting to know one another, sharing meals, sharing what their faith means to them, visiting one another's places of prayer," Sharman reported.

Speaking to why he believed this particular initiative was a valuable model of interfaith dialogue, Sharman highlighted three reasons.

Firstly, "A Common Word" is "not lowest common denominator"—meaning it does not require either faith to water down its beliefs or minimize differences in order to get along—he said. "In my view, that is not an authentic Anglican view of inter-religious dialogue."
Secondly, he said, it is an ecumenical initiative, and thirdly, it is a "holistic effort."

"There are some inter-religious efforts that perhaps tend toward the academic and the intellectual realm. There are some that are mostly on the level of making friends, sharing meals, maybe not going into the nitty-gritty questions. Both of those are important and have their place, but it's better if those can be integrated."

Sharman's presentation was followed by a short speech by Imam Mohammad Shujaath Ali, an imam from the Vancouver area who works in connection with the BC Muslim Association.

Ali spoke to the importance of Christian-Muslim dialogue, saying, "it is not a human initiative for us Muslims—it is a divine obligation," with the directive to "come to a common word" coming straight from the Holy Qur'an.

While the letter focuses on the common teachings of love of God and love of neighbour, Ali said, "these two are not the only two commonalities that we have. They are among many that we share with each other, and therefore I personally feel that these commonalities that we have between you and I as human beings, as the followers of faith, are so strong, so powerful to unite us than the differences that we have to divide us."

Ali also said that Christians and Muslims should "open the doors of our congregations and our centres and our churches and mosques" to welcome each other, and form groups both locally and nationally to work together, "addressing the common challenges that serve as a threat to both of the faiths in this age of secularism and liberalism."

Bishop of the diocese of Edmonton Jane Alexander also spoke briefly before the motion, which was on the no-debate list, was passed near-unanimously; six members of General Synod voted "No" (2.9%) while nine abstained.
"As I thought about this resolution, I was reminded of the words of [former Archbishop of Canterbury] Rowan Williams, who said that the growing awareness is that peace throughout the world is deeply entwined with the ability of all people of faith everywhere to live together in peace, justice, mutual respect and love. A radical, non-violent engagement with the deepest needs of our world and our common humanity. This need, to support this motion and 'A Common Word,' is seen across all the provinces of the Anglican Communion," Alexander said.
