What do Muslims not know of women's rights?

Presentation of Chapter 4 of the Qur'an and Related Hadith in Augusta, Georgia

May 30. Dr. Kaukab Siddique spoke for one hour on salient features of Sura Nisa' at the Islamic Center of Augusta, Georgia. About a hundred people turned up for the event which was astonishing because it was Wednesday evening. The program had been heavily publicized by a pious Islamic sister in the Augusta area and neighboring towns of South Carolina.

Most of the people were from India, Pakistan, Egypt, Palestine and several other Arab countries as well as a few African American and White converts to Islam.

Dr. Siddique drew the following points from chapter 4 of the Qur'an.
  1. The primary role of the mother plus related hadith about the mother.

  2. Sexual anarchy in Arabia and compared with America today, and related hadith.

  3. Islam is the only religion which gives property rights to women.

  4. The battle of Uhud and Umm Ammara's, r.a., role in defending the Prophet, pbuh. [Hadith].

  5. The battle of Uhud and the role of Fatima Zahra, r.a. [Hadith]

  6. The organizational and structural social principles of Islam.

  7. Obligation of Muslims to fight in defense of the oppressed men, women and children.

  8. Jesus, pbuh, was not crucified. Every Christian and Jew must accept Jesus, pbuh, as the true messenger of God.

How to study the Qur'an in general and Sura Nisa' in Particular?

Also in Augusta, Georgia, on May 31, a sisters' study group held a meeting at a private home which was addressed by Dr. Siddique for one hour after which the sisters asked him questions.

This program was about the essential requirements for the study of Sura' Nisa and the Qur'an in general. This group studies the tafseer of Sis. Farhat Hashmi on line. They parted from their schedule to lisent to Dr. Siddique. A health oriented Arab style lunch followed Zuhr prayers.

Most people do not know how to study the Qur'an and as a result they become confused and contradictory.

Reaching out to African American Muslims in Atlanta
With thanks to Imam Khalil
Oppose Both White and Black Oppressors: Get over Minority Mentality. Homosexuality is Haram.
Islam Has Its Own Agenda. We are a global Ummah, 1.8 Billion Strong

[On June 1, Dr. Kaukab Siddique gave the khutba and led Juma' prayers at the Westend Masjid in central Atlanta, Georgia which is the stronghold of the community led by Imam Jamil al-Amin [former H. Rap Brown] who is in a US prison. He is considerd the most sunnah-oriented Imam in America.
Br. Kaukab was warmly greeted with love and respect by many members of the large congregation, including Sis. Karim al-Amin [Imam Jamil's wife],, Br. Kairi [their son], Imam Nadim Ali as well as other activist brothers and sisters. Br, Nadim Ali is the imam and serves the community in many ways, both through his work as a therapist and through his counselling work.]

[African American Muslims have not forgotten that before Imam Jamil was arrested, CAIR referred to him as if he was an outlaw who should surrender. At that time Jamaat al-Muslimeen, led by Br. Kaukab, launched the MILLION SIGNATURE'S CAMPAIGN in support of Imam Jamil. Scrolls of these signatures were sent to attorney general Ashcroft.]
Here are some of the main points made by Br. Kaukab in his khutba:

Text: "And incline not towards those who oppress, lest the Fire should touch you, and you have no protectors other than Allah, nor would you then be helped." [The Qur'an 11:113]
  1. Allah Almighty teaches us that we are ONE COMMUNITY. That's why we call each other "brother" and "sister."

  2. We are required to pray five times a day to acquire the spiritual power to deal with oppressors.

  3. Look at Imam Jamil, in a little cell in Colorado. He has been mistreated and humiliated but he has not compromised his principles and he has not bowed down before the power of the oppressors. What excuse then do we have to remain silent when we have the right to speak freely and truthfully within the limits of the law?

  4. Imam Jamil's son has just graduated from his studies in Law. Isn't that a great achievement? Education with grace under stress!

  5. America has no solution to its problems. It's media targets young people of all colors but especially Black males. Then its government puts them in prison. With more than 2,000,000 prisoners, USA is building more prisons, and 10 million people are affected by this system of injustice.
  6. Adultery and fornication, the exploitation of women are so widespread that almost every major crime is connected with them.

  7. As if that was not evil enough, the President of the country has come out in support of homosexuality, legitimizing male-to-male and female-to-female "marriages", thus flying in the face of both Islam and Christianity.

  8. African American leadership has imprisoned the Black community within the minority mentality. The Black community feels that being only 13% [some say 15%] of the population, it is at the mercy of the Democratic party to save it from the extremism of the Republican party.

  9. African American Muslims can help break this mental prison of "minorityism." Islam has its own agenda. We must speak against the KKK-types as well as against the Obama-Zionist types. We are people who stand for justice, character, truthfulness and complete submission to Allah.
  10. Our children should know that about 80% of Africa is Muslim. We are a global ummah of 1.8 billion. Even now in the mosques of Pakistan, Malaysia, Nigeria, France you will be accepted as a brother or sister as soon as you say "asalamu alaikum."

  11. This country is being destroyed by liquor, gambling and drugs connected to the wave of crime. Islam is the only solution. There is no prohibition of liquor and gambling in the Bible, so Christians are helpless before these evils.
  12. America tried to destroy Malcolm X, putting him in a cell as a petty criminal. Islam exalted him as al-Hajj Malik Shabazz. In Makka he found that White supremacy is a mental condition, not a skin condition!

  13. Pray for the victory of Islam in Kashmir against India, in Afghanistan against NATO, in Pakistan against US-backed secularists, in Iraq against the US and its allies. Pray for the defeat of US interference in Nigeria, Somalia and Sudan. Pray for the victory of the people of Syria, Egypt and Yemen. Above all we pray, O Allah, that the Yahood be driven out of Palestine just as they drove us out.

Spotlights on Children and parents
Imam Badi Ali, National Shoora leader, Jamaat al-Muslimeen, invites you to think
Spotlight #1:
What you give a child, he/she will give you back. He/she will love, forgive, judge you as you did, and this will be reflected in the community.
Spotlight #2:
If you want children to grow, praise them for the good they do in front of them and also in public.
Spotlight # 3:
If you love your children, prove it. Spend quality time with them. Prophet Muhammad, pbuh, said, teach them to ride horses. If there are no horses, teach them to bike.
Spotlight #4:
Remember that the mother takes care of the baby but his first words are "baba" or "dada." That's human nature.
Spotlight #5:
Having problems with your children, invite grandmother or grandfather. Extended family is important.
Spotlight #6:
Teach children to support each other and the family, and not be totally independent.
Spotlight #7:
Notice that nowadays parents obey their children? Go back to basics. Children should be taught to obey their parents.
Spotlight #8:
When a father is sitting with a child, it is like a gardener attending to a flower or a plant he has planted.
Spotlight #9:
Remember, in your child's growth, the family atmosphere is more important than many of his friends.
Spotlight #10.
By praising your child, you not only influence him/her but also future generations of children.
Your actions towards children today will become their character tomorrow.

From Yusuf Irelandi
Director of Advocacy, Jamaat al-Muslimeen Tennessee

You can Check your Own Level of Islam: Here is the check list.

[I direct this teaching firstly at myself and then at others.]
For my first posting I have thought long and hard about what would be a good naseehahto give to the Muslimeen. First, the word I chose, "naseehah" comes from a famous authentic hadeeth from Saheeh Muslim (number 55) in which the Prophet (saw) said:
Tameem ad-Daaree radiallaahu 'anhu said: The Prophet sallallaa hu 'alayhi wa sallam said (three times): "The Deen is naseehah (sincerity and sincere advice)." We said: To whom? He said: "To Allah, His Book, His Messenger and to the leaders of the Muslims and the general people."
The word naseehah comes from the word nasaha, which means: "to be pure, unmixed, genuine, act sincerely, give sincere advice, counsel earnestly, be faithful. The word and its root have been used thirteen times in the Qur'an alone.
I chose this word and hadeeth to set the standard of this and any future posts. In this particular hadeeth, the word indeed is referring to "sincere advice" but we can interpret it with all of the meanings of the root word to know exactly what kind of advice.
Many of us profess to be a Muslim, but sadly, many of our Shahadahs are fake. One may take offense to this, but we see every day how Muslims turn their faces to the leaders to offer their five daily prayers instead of the Ka'bah in Makka.
As with anything in life, there are conditions that must be fulfilled to live up to the title of Muslim. On top of that, Muslim is the lowest title. You have Muslim, Mu'min, and Muhsin. This also goes in line with the Hadeeth of Jibreel (a.s.) when he asked the Prophet (saw), what is Islam, what is Imaan, and what is Ihsaan. Also, Allah says:
"The Bedouins say: "We believe (aamannaa)." Say: "You believe not but you only say, 'We have surrendered (aslamnaa) [in Islam],' for Faith (al-Imaan) has not yet entered your hearts. But if you obey Allah and His Messenger (saw), He will not decrease anything in reward for your deeds. Verily Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." [Al-Hujurat (49): 14]
The conditions of Shahadah are as follows:
Someone asked Wahb ibn Munnabih (d. 110), 'Is not laa ilaaha illa Allah the key to Jannah?' He replied, 'Yes, but every key has ridges, so if you come with the key that has the right ridges, the door will be opened for you, otherwise not.'
Hasan al-Basree said whoever says the kalimah and fulfills its conditions will enter Jannah.
  1. Knowledge ('ilm, not jahl)
"So know that there is no god worthy of worship but Allah." (Muhammad, 47:19)
"Whoever dies knowing that there is no one worthy of worship except Allah shall enter Paradise." (Muslim)
So if someone repeats the kalimah without knowledge of it, it does not bring any benefit. One must have knowledge of it.

  2. Certainty (yaqeen, not shaqq)
"The (true) believers are those only who believe in Allah and His messenger and afterward doubt not (in their Eemaan)" (Al-Hujuraat, 49:15)
"No one meets Allah with the testimony that there is none worthy of worship but Allah, and I am the Messenger of Allah, and he has no doubt about that statement, except that he will enter Paradise." (Muslim)

  3. Acceptance (qabool, not rejection or arrogance).
"For when it was said to them, 'There is no god save Allah', they rejected." (As-Saaffaat, 37:35)
"Do you believe in part of the book and reject part of it?" (Al-Baqarah, 2:85)
Some people like Iblees know the shahadah is true, but have not accepted it.

  4. Submission (inqiyaad, not leaving it and not acting upon it).
The acceptance is in the heart, and submission is with the body.
"Turn to Him repentant, and surrender to Him."(Az-Zumar, 39:54)

  5. Truthfulness (sidq, not lying).
"And there are some people who say: We believe in Allah and the Last Day when they believe not. They desire to deceive Allah and those who believe, and they deceive none but themselves; only they perceive it not." (Al-Baqarah, 2:8-9)
"No one bears testimony to there being no one worthy of worship but Allah, truthfully from his heart, except that Allah makes the Hellfire forbidden for him."

  6. Sincerity - ikhlaas and without nifaaq or shirk.
"Worship Allah, making religion pure for him."(Az-Zumar, 39:2)
Abu Hurairah (ra) narrated, "I asked the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him: Messenger of Allah! Who will be most fortunate to enjoy your shafaa'ah (intercession) on the Day of Resurrection? The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: I was certain that no one else would ask me about this other than you, because I have noticed your keenness for hadeeth. The most fortunate of men who will enjoy my shafaa'ah (intercession) on the Day of Resurrection is the one who says: (La Ilaaha Illa Allah) 'None has the right to be worshipped except Allah', sincerely from his heart." (Related by Al-Bukhari)
You should be truthful to yourself, and then have sincerity to Allah.

  7. Loving it and its people, and hating those who oppose it (vs. hating its people).
"You wilt not find any people who believe in Allah and the Last Day and yet they love those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even though they be their fathers, or their sons, or their brethren, or their kindred. These are they in whose hearts Allah has inscribed true faith and whom He has strengthened with inspiration from Himself. And He will admit them into Gardens through which streams flow. Therein they will abide; Allah is well pleased with them and they are well pleased with Him. They are Allah's party. Surely, it is Allah's party who are the successful." (Al-Mujaadilah, 58:22)
I had a discussion the other day with a person about "pristine Islam". They asked me where, if ever, did it exist, and when did it ever exist, because mankind is sinful. I told this person that pristine Islam is not the absence of sin, but the absence of polytheism. Condition number 7 above sounds harsh because of the word "hate", but this is what it entails - loving the Muslims and rejecting polytheism. For so long we have come to the conclusion that "the ends justifies the means" in our lives - we can use foreign things to promote Islam. Who does not know that this is a trick of the devil? We even see the Islamic resistance movements using foreign weapons - weapons that were created by the invaders and occupying forces of Dar-ul-Islam. We are using them to resist these occupations. Why? Because we feel that their way is the better way. We can create an Islamic state by using Democracy, AK-47's, and French laws.
Brothers and sisters, I am an American and I am taught and told I enjoy the right of freedom of speech and my religious beliefs are protected. I am allowed to live as a Muslim here, for the most part, even though there is much suspicion on Muslims. Then let us be Muslims - Muslims who lead by example because we have the best of etiquettes and character. Muslims because we only worship God Alone, without any partners, wives, children, or intermediaries. We do not have to chase after the non-Muslims to get pats on the head and accepted. Why do we have to pitch our way of life when we know it is the best? The situation should be vice-versa. They should be pitching to us how their politics and their religions are the way to salvation. It starts with these conditions whether it is a rock, star, person, Pennsylvania Ave., Downing St., a grave, or politics. We can start with us. Start with rejecting polytheism, because Allah said:
"Verily, Allah will not change the condition of a people as long as they do not change their state themselves." [Ar-Ra'd (13): 11]
So, sects, denominations and views aside, we will not get anywhere as the best of all people unless we reject polytheism in our lives. Our way is the best way. So then, why are we so ashamed of ourselves and want to blend in? The Baptist preacher will tell us in a heartbeat his way is the only way - and he is the one on falsehood. So where does that leave us? I end with the Uncreated Words of Allah:
"Say: 'Allah [revealed it].' Then leave them to their [empty] discourse, amusing themselves." [Al-An'am (6): 91]
"And who is better in speech than he who says: "My Lord is Allah (believes in His Oneness)," and then stands firm (acts upon His order), and] invites to Allah's (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: 'I am one of the Muslims.'" [Fussilat (41): 33]

Pakistan

Islamic Leader calls for Exit of USA from Muslim World. Qur'an Desecration not Forgotten.
Wants Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, China Alliance

LAHORE, June 1: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Mnawar Hasan, has stressed upon the rulers to get out of the US slavery and ensure its exit from the region, otherwise they would lose the support of China and Russia as well.

Addressing the Friday congregation at Mansoora, he said that the government was trying to restore NATO supplies by keeping the nation in the dark but this would have disastrous consequences. However, he said the nation would not allow resumption of NATO supplies in any case.
He also suggested the formation of a regional bloc comprising China,Iran and Turkey and Pakistan to restore peace and for the exi t of the outside forces.

Syed Munawar Hasan said that high government officials of China and Russia had expressed solidarity with Pakistan and stressed the need for the pullout of theUS.
But unfortunately, the short sighted and slavish minded rulers were guarding theUS interests instead of the national interests.

The JI Ameer pointed out that the US was patronizing the conspiracies against Islam all over the world. The US mind was behind the desecration of the Holy Quran and the blasphemy of the Noble Prophet. TheUS in fact, wanted to plunge the whole world in the flames of war with its evil intention to enforce its New World Order, yet the Pakistani rulers were not ready to walk out of the US shadow.

Shameful Activities of Prime Minister Gilani in London.
Syed Munawar Hasan said that the reports that the convicted Prime Minister of a poor and highly indebted country had purchased three coats for Rs. 8 million during his London tour were shocking. Gilani had also taken 96 other people with him to England and they had stayed at the most costly hotels at the public expense and were also paid allowances for shopping, which was most shameful. While the public money was being squandered like that, the energy crisis in the country had deepened and the people were on the streets. However, he said, this was an artificial crisis because the government was not making payments to the power companies which was in fact betraying the masses.

First Western Interview with al-Shabab Leader Negates Propaganda About Somalia.
Most of Somalia is under al-Shabab and is Flourishing

[Excerpted from report from freelance journalist Hamza Mohamed. Courtesy BBC, May 1]
After a short drive we reach the centre of Elasha Biyaha, a beehive of commerce and trade.
Unlike the battle-scarred buildings of Mogadishu all the buildings here are new, with their tin roofs glowing in the mid-morning sun.
On both sides of the only tarmac road in the town, stores sell goods from matchsticks to sacks of rice.
Also noticeably different from Mogadishu is the absence of men with guns in the streets of the town - even though this is a "front line".
People stop and stare at us, only for them to smile and resume their activities when I greet them in Somali.
We head to the hotel where our meeting is scheduled to take place. We get there in time but there is no sign of our contact.
A quick call and we find out to our surprise he is in fact in Mogadishu, a city controlled by government and AU soldiers, attending a funeral for two religious elders who died in the shelling the night before.
Facebook profile
After two hours' wait a tall, slim figure with a goatee and a broad smile comes walking towards us.

In February there was a demonstration in Elasha Biyaha to back al-Shabab joining al-Qaeda
With arms outstretched, he says my name and gives me a hug as if I am an old friend. I ask how he picked me out of the crowd in the hotel.
He says: "You look like the picture on your Facebook profile."
My heart goes into overdrive. How much more could he possibly know about me? What about my Twitter account? Does he read my tweets?
After a few seconds of nervous silence, he gives a broad smile and soft pat on my shoulder saying: "Don't worry you look better in real life."
Over freshly made mango smoothies, he apologises for not being on time.
Probably in his late 20s, he looks nothing like you may imagine a typical Islamist insurgent to be. There are no robes or heavy beards.
He is wearing a crisply ironed shirt and trousers with the Islamic scarf loosely resting upon his head, protecting it from the intense morning sun.
As the main man of al-Shabab's media campaign you would think he would be escorted by heavily-armed and masked bodyguards - but there are no signs of security or even a pistol for protection.
'No stealing'
As we are having drinks he notices I do not wear a wedding ring.
The conversation changes to what kind of women I prefer, and why I have not married.
\Many people have fled from areas controlled by al-Shabab
He offers to assist me in finding a potential wife and he adds that if I cannot afford the dowry he will happily contribute.
I had expected to be asked whether I pray five times a day, not about my taste in women.
We talk until the midday call for prayers goes out, and I suggest we go to the mosque. Somalia brings out the fear of God in everyone.
Nur and I are used to carrying our kit with us wherever we go, but he suggests we leave it in the car.
Remembering that we were told to keep the tinted windows down, I say we are happy carrying the kit with us.
He insists, assuring us if anything happened he would personally pay for our kit.
After prayers we go to a restaurant for a lunch of boiled camel meat, rice and stew. Between chewing the tough camel meat and the soft basmati rice he gives me the news I have been hoping for - the freedom to report from al-Shabab-controlled areas.
We return to our car after lunch; our kit is still there, albeit dusty from the strong wind and in full display to all the locals.
"This is an al-Shabab area, nobody touches what's not theirs," the man tells me.
As we begin our drive back to Mogadishu he reassures us of our safety.
Feeling a bit more confident, I retort with a smile that while this may be true, we cannot be safe from drone strikes.

June 3. Sydney Morning Herald [Australia] Excerpt
Northern Mali in Islamic [al-Qaida] Hands. Shari'a to be implemented
Until recently Mali was considered Africa's most successful democracies and its descent into political chaos has caught many by surprise.
The triumphant rebels - an alliance of heavily armed Tuareg tribesmen and radical Islamic groups - now control a vast tract of northern of Mali.
A group representing disaffected members of the Tuareg tribe - the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) has declared an independent homeland in northern Mali. Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and Ansar Dine - both groups linked to al-Qaeda - are involved in the rebellion. Ansar Dine has already begun to impose sharia in the ancient town of Timbuktu.
There are fears Islamist groups in northern Mali have ties to Boko Haram, an extremist group responsible for a spate of violent attacks in northern Nigeria, and there are unconfirmed reports that fighters from Algeria, Afghanistan and Pakistan are operating in northern Mali.

Yemen

Islamics Kidnapping Saudis to get Islamic Women released from Saudi Prisons

[Courtesy Yemen Times, June 1]
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia warned Saudi nationals against traveling to Yemen. According to an official at the Interior Ministry in Saudi Arabia, the situation in Yemen is unsafe and Saudis have been advised not to travel to Yemen until the country stabilizes.
The Saudi warning comes one day after Al-Qaeda broadcast video footage showing the abducted Saudi consul, Abdulla Al-Khalidi, who appeared to urge King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz to help liberate him from Al-Qaeda's grip and cede to their demands.
In April, Al-Qaeda demanded the release of women detained in Saudi Arabia and to pay financial ransom in exchange for releasing the Saudi consul. However, the Saudis declined to negotiate with Al-Qaeda.
