136 killed, 350 injured in attack on U.S.-Supported Pakistan leader Benazir Bhutto: Martyrdom Operator Suspected

LATE NEWS: Karachi, Pakistan. Near midnight, Oct.18-19, not far from the Karsaz naval establishment, Ms. Benazir Bhutto's triumphant parade was attacked. Reports say, a small explosion, probably with a grenade, was followed up with a huge explosion. The primary targets seem to have been Ms. Bhutto's specially prepared armored bus vehicle and police wagons around it. The explosions killed nearly 30 police officers and about 100 workers of Ms. Bhutto's Peoples Party. At least 350 people were injured. Ms. Bhutto, though visibly shaken, was not hurt. Her vehicle successfully absorbed the blast without exploding. A few of her party leaders were injured. However, the 4 police vehicles protecting her, as well as 20 other cars were destroyed. Peoples Party has announced three days of mourning.

The main question for analysts is: Who did it. Ms. Bhutto had earlier alleged that the Red Mosque community might attack her. Red Mosque media condemned the statement by Ms. Bhutto as totally irresponsible. [See Red Mosque statement below published before the attack.] Indications are that the attack was carried out by a martyrdom operator. On October 18 a Pakistani Taliban, leader in Waziristan, Shaikh Umar, had alleged that Ms. Bhutto was coming back with the support of the U.S. to carry on General Musharraf's work. He threatened a physical response.

Ms. Bhutto supported the Pakistani army's attack on the Red Mosque and the Jamia Hafsa Women's Islamic university in which several hundred Islamic youths, including young women, were slaughtered by the Pakistani army. As the military went into the mosque, it used phosphorous to wipe out the Islamic students and elders including Abdul Rashid Ghazi and his mother. Ms. Bhutto applauded the attack.

The Red Mosque leadership urged a non-violent response to the Bhutto-Musharraf combine [backed by the U.S.]. The attack on Ms. Bhutto could indicate that the Taliban do not subscribe to the Red Mosque's non-violent response.

In Waziristan, the army recently wiped out a Muslim village killing more than 200 civilians, mostly women and children. In Ms. Bhutto's view, this action was not severe enough. She plans to occupy and crush the entire Waziristan area because it feeds the Islamic resistance. Our observers say Pakistan is in for difficult times.

Take Action: Speak Out Against "Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week"
Anti-Islam Jewish Zionist and Christian Zionist Groups Swing into Action

[Check the list of hate mongers and propagandists at the end of this post.]

During the week of October 22-26, 2007, right-wing and neo-conservative political forces led by the David Horowitz Freedom Center are calling for "Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week" events on campuses across the U.S. (for a list of campuses and speakers, see below).

If this event is coming to your campus or neighborhood - and even if it's not - speak out against this racist assault on Muslims, Arabs, Arab-Americans, South Asians and anyone viewed as sympathetic towards those communities. While some people might dismiss the neo-conservatives as fringe elements who don't impact on U.S. policy, the truth is much more disturbing. They are part of an alliance of forces that work to maintain the war against Iraq, escalate the standoff with Iran into military conflict, and cement Israel's hold on the occupied Palestinian territories and violations of Palestinian human rights through a system of apartheid rule.

The stakes are simply too high to ignore, and we should respond to the so-called "Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week" - and to all such provocations - pro-actively, not defensively.

To learn more about the forces driving this agenda, read "Understanding Why Islamophobia is on the Rise," the analysis by Phyllis Bennis, fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies, and member of the U.S. Campaign's steering committee.

By defending basic freedoms of thought, speech and belief, we underscore three simple messages:

We stand for free speech, not hate speech.

We stand for tolerance, not bigotry.

We stand for education, not demagoguery.

SPEAK OUT FOR FREE SPEECH, TOLERANCE, AND EDUCATION!

This is the list of the most active Islam haters and bigots active in America who are irresponsibly pouring out a steady stream of lies, abuse and disinformation about Islam.

Pakistan latest: October 18, 2007: Ms. Benazir Bhutto, PPP Chairperson, arrived in Karachi to a huge welcome, mostly organized on an ethnic basis. She is Bush's civilian reinforcement to bolster up Musharraf's collapse among the Pakistani people. She seems to have an anti-Islam agenda as can be seen from the rebuttal by Red Mosque movement of her extremely irresponsible statement with which she started her return ----Editor.

Red Mosque Movement Rejects Irresponsible Statement by Benazir Bhutto

Press Release by Lal Masjid Media wing,

The statement made by Mohtarama Benazir Bhutto in today's press conference, claiming that the cadres of Lal Masjid might be planning to assassinate her is highly preposterous. The Tehreek e Talaba o Talibat [the movement of Islamic students, male and female] does not believe in terrorism and political assassination as a means to bring about an Islamic revolution. It is a known fact that not even a single opponent of the movement before or after the infamous Operation Silence was physically attacked.

An attack on a leader as insignificant as Mohtarama would be a sign of great desperation, disorganization and demoralization on the part of our cadres. On the contrary we are even more organized and disciplined then before the fall of Jamia Hafsa. Our morale is high and we are hopeful for the supremacy of Shariat in our country.

It is comprehensible that the Lal Masjid movement has got nothing to gain from attacking Miss Bhutto. However some hidden hands might attack her and put the blame on us. The Neo-Fascist organization MQM might try to sabotage BBs rally. The MQM has gotten used to wiping off political opponents, courtesy the specter of religious extremism and sectarianism. The nation has not yet forgotten the Nishtar Park bloodbath.

President Musharraf might also try to cash in on an attack on the former prime minister. He might have the justification to declare martial law and extend his rule a few years. After all Musharraf is fond of South American right wing military dictators.

Abu Hafs

Lal Masjid Media spokesman [Islamabad, Pakistan]

MQM is the biggest organization of criminals in Karachi, [somewhat like the mafia in USA] the city where Benazir arrived, and is known for violence instigated and protected by the Musharraf regime. [Note from NT's Pakistan monitor]

Afghans Protest Latest Desecration of the Qur'an by U.S. Troops

ASADABAD, Afghanistan (AFP) — [October 13, 2007, eve of Eid.] The US military said it would investigate claims that its soldiers had burned a copy of the Koran in Afghanistan, as angry locals demanded action and threatened retaliation.
Allegations that troops tore up and burnt the Muslim holy book during a raid in the eastern province of Kunar on Saturday led several hundred villagers to demonstrate the same day, blocking a main road for hours.
Locals repeated the charges at a heated meeting Sunday in the provincial capital Asadabad of representatives of the US military, Afghan officials and more than a dozen men from the area near the raid site in Narang district.
"You have desecrated our religion," resident Azim Khan told the US delegation.
"If the perpetrators do not apologise to Afghans and to all the Muslims of the world, and if they are not brought to justice and punished for what they have done, we will stand against you, you will see an uprising," he said.
US Captain Jason Coughenour said the allegations would be treated seriously.
"We respect your religion," he said. "We will launch an investigation and find out who has burnt the Koran. If it has been done by an American, we will punish him."

Our America
Jewish Americans are certainly not Trying to be the Friends of Muslims
Salman Rushdie, Madeleine Albright, Hirsi Ali honored by Js

From New Trend's J monitor

CAIR-ISNA and other bootlicker groups invite Zionist Jews of the most virulent types into the ranks of Muslims and try to give the impression that Jews can be the friends of Muslims. CAIR's simpletons supported Keith Ellison who went to the extent of starting his election campaign from a Synagogue. The Jews love Ellison so much, they preferred him as the trustworthy friend of Israel to a Republican who was himself a Jew. Ellison spent his August 2007 holidays in Israel.

Muslims want to be the friends of Jewish Americans [JAs] but the JA's have shown beyond a reasonable doubt that they hate Islam. Even the most highly educated and cultured JA's have shown deep bigotry and hatred for Islam. Here are a couple of examples of the behavior of the Jewish elites, highly educated and "cultured" [not JDL thugs]:

Three groups of JAs, Meyerhoff Symphony, Villa Julie College and National Public Radio [NPR], all three of Baltimore, Maryland, are facilitating the visits of: Villa Julie College has invited these two devils, Meyerhoff is lending its facilities for their presentations and NPR is publicizing them and helping to sell the tickets. These Jewish American [JA] groups have not asked the Muslims of Baltimore about these "guests." Through Masjid Rahma's non-dynamic leadership, the large numbers of Muslims who attend Islamic Society of Baltimore [ISB] activities are totally helpless in the face of these insults. The Jews would give more importance to a fly than they give to ISB's sleepy "Islamic" leaders. CAIR and ISNA have turned these communities into mentally enslaved "prayers only" Muslims.

In Atlanta, Emory University has invited Hirsi Ali, the Somali Islam hater, as its honored [paid] guest. Hirsi is the cheapest trash Somalia could produce. The most ordinary Somali woman knows more Islam than Hirsi Ali does, but Hirsi had what the hate mongers wanted: An insatiable desire to serve the Zionist Jews. Emory University is the school whose most eminent professor is Deborah Lipstadt who tried to vilify and censor the world famous historian David Irving. He brought a suit against Lipstadt but the entire Jewish-Zionist establishment went into action o support Lipstadt and Irving was "defeated."

Here is what the JAs in Emory university are supporting. This is a Hirsi Ali quote from the interview this trashy woman gave:

"Hirsi Ali: I think that we are at war with Islam. And there's no middle ground in wars. Islam can be defeated in many ways. For starters, you stop the spread of the ideology itself; at present, there are native Westerners converting to Islam, and they're the most fanatical sometimes. There is infiltration of Islam in the schools and universities of the West. You stop that. You stop the symbol burning and the effigy burning, and you look them in the eye and flex your muscles and you say, "This is a warning. We won't accept this anymore." There comes a moment when you crush your enemy."

Imagine the ignorance Hirsi Ali suffers from. Poor thing does not seem to realize that America has already dropped tens of thousands of bombs on Iraq and Afghanistan to no avail. In fact the Islamic resistance is winning against elite American units like the 101st airborne and the 82nd airborne. The Taliban literally slaughtered a Navy Seal unit. What can Hirsi Ali hope to throw against Islam which would achieve victory for the JAs?

Hirsi Ali committed such blasphemies against Islam in Holland that she provoked the death of an Islam hater at the hands of a Moroccan Islamist and the destruction of a dozen Islamic schools and mosques at the hands of the Dutch who are known for their racism and colonial mindsets.
Inshallah, the Muslims of America will defang and sterilize Hirsi Ali without physical violence. She and Salman Rushdie can't last against the Muslims of America in any reasonably fair debate. As the Qur'an says, the devil's plots and plans are no match for the faith and determination of the people of Islam

Is It True That Hadith Was Not Written in the time of the Prophet, pbuh?
Were the Qur'an and the Hadith transmitted by same people or different ones?

Question from Sis. N. in Detroit [From a long letter]:

I am originally from Iran , moving to real Islam, Qur'an and Hadith. I read a good book by Fazlur Rahman (Chicago University) but it confused me on some points. He writes, Hadith was written in third century after the Prophet. New Trend's web site says follow Qur'an and Hadith. I am confused please explain why Hadith was not written in time of the Prophet ?

ANSWER by Kaukab Siddique :

Dr. Fazlur Rahman was influenced by Christian missionaries and Jewish orientalists. He tried to confuse the Muslims of Pakistan, with the support of the military government, but was defeated and fled to America where he was immediately given a senior position at Chicago University to teach Islam.

Both the Qur'an and the Hadith were written down in the time of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). The Qur'an is the word of Allah revealed to Muhammad (peace be on him). The Hadith is the commentary, explanation, implementation of the Qur'an by Muhammad (pbuh). Both are interlinked and essential to each other. No authentic Islamic scholar has ever tried to say that Hadith is not necessary or was written later.

The people who wrote down the Qur'an, on bits and pieces of materials, were the SAHABA or companions of the Prophet (pbuh). Paper and printing were not available at that time. So, people could not go around with printed and bound copies of the Qur'an. Even the collation and putting together of the Qur'an was done by the SAHABA so that the Qur'an became a BOOK between two covers after the Prophet (pbuh) passed away. This great work was done under the supervision of Abu Bakr, Umar, Osman, and Ali (may Allah be pleased with them all) who were the first four rightly guided Caliphs of Islam.

The same SAHABA also wrote and transmitted the Hadith and made sure that nothing was falsely attributed to the Prophet (pbuh).

The QUR'AN was also MEMORIZED by the Sahaba. In fact few of them had it in writing but many of them knew it from memory. The cross checking of memory with writing was carried out to make sure that the Qur'an as revealed to the Prophet, pbuh, was transmitted to future generations.

The HADITH was also memorized by the SAHABA and transmitted to future generations. Any scholar of Hadith had to MEMORIZE the HADITH from the written collections of the Sahaba and then RECITE IT FROM MEMORY to his/her teacher. Thus an accurate record of the Prophet's, pbuh, life and teachings was enshrined in the scholarship of the Muslim world.

In the era after the SAHABA various kinds of sects arose which tried to disseminate their own versions of the Qur'an. Some of them claimed that Hazrat Ali (r.a.) had received suras of the Qur'an from the Prophet, pbuh, which no one else had. The scholars of the line of Ali (r.a.) and Fatima (r.a.), such as Imam Jafar and Imam Baqir, were able to repudiate these claims because they had the Qur'an both by memory and in writing.

Similarly attempts were made to invent "Hadith." This was a very serious effort by Kings and emperors who wanted religion to justify their tyranny and to create a "tame Islam." The problem was aggravated by the fact that various SAHABA had migrated to various cities, and after they passed away, various people could claim that they had heard Hadith from them.

It was in that context that great scholars like Imam Bukhari stepped forward to ENSURE that fabrications did not enter the corpus of Hadith. I think that these scholars were a bit too strict and as a result they sometimes designated as "weak" even those Hadith which were authentic but which would not pass the test of extremely severe scrutiny.

Imam Bukhari and other imams are the ones Dr. Fazlur Rahman was abusing when he claimed that Hadith was written in the third century after the Prophet. Fazlur Rahman really was quite ignorant of Hadith and hence recklessly fell into the trap set for him by Christian missionaries and Jewish orientalists.

WAS HADITH WRITTEN in the TIME OF THE PROPHET (pbuh)? Yes, the evidence is overwhelming. Here is one sample from a prominent companion of the Prophet, pbuh, Abdullah ibn Umru ibn al-Aas. It is authenticated by two distinct and separate compilers of Hadith, Abu Dawud in his Sunan (chapter Kitabut al-Ilm) and Darimi in his Musnad (chapter on Rukhs fi Kitabut al-Ilm):

"Whatever I heard from the messenger of Allah, peace be on him, I would write it down so as to be able to memorize it. Then some in the Quraish (tribe) said to me: You write down whatever you hear though the messenger of Allah is a human being and speaks both in anger and in joy. On hearing that I stopped writing and then I mentioned this to the messenger of Allah. He pointed with his finger to his mouth and said: Write on! By Him in whose Hand is my being, no word comes out of this mouth but the Truth."

Abdullah ibn Umru (r.a.) collected the Hadith he had written in the presence of the Prophet (pbuh) in a book titled Al-Sadiqa. Abdullah said: "There are two things I love in life: Al-Sadiqa and al-Wahat." He explained: "Al-Sadiqa is that manuscript which I heard and wrote from the messenger of Allah and Wahat is that land which (my father) Umru ibn al-Aas donated to the cause of Allah and which I take care of." [Darimi's Sunan.]

The compendium Tahzeeb al-Tahzeeb tells us that on the death of Abdullah, r.a, the manuscript of Al-Sadiqa was secured by his grandson Shuaib bin Muhammad and then transmitted to the next generation by his son also named Umru. THE HADITH WRITTEN BY Abdullah, r.a., DIRECTLY FROM THE PROPHET, pbuh, AND AT HIS COMMAND, are to be found in the collections of Hadith which we have under this chain of narration:

"From Umru son of Shuaib from his father from his grandfather." As Hadith is a very strict discipline, some classical scholars wanted to classify the collection as Mursal because they thought the grandson should have SAT DOWN IN FRONT OF THE GRANDFATHER AND RECITED THE WHOLE COLLECTION TO HIM FROM MEMORY! However, some of the greatest scholars of Hadith, like Imam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal, accept the authenticity of Al-Sadiqa.

What makes Al-Sadiqa's authenticity irrefutable is that it was also transmitted by OTHER STUDENTS of Abdullah (r.a.) who had nothing to do with his grandson.

So, don't let anyone tell you that Hadith was not written in the time of the Prophet, pbuh.

FINALLY, spend a couple of months in trying to understand this verse of the Qur'an. It will help you to understand why the Hadith is essential and ALWAYS goes with the Qur'an:

"The Prophet is closer to the believers than their own selves, and his wives are their mothers. [33:6]

30,000 Iraqi Prisoners in U.S.-backed Concentration Camps
Muslim Women prisoners languish in Iraqi jail without trial

Kareem Zair, Azzaman

October 8, 2007

A visit to a women prison in a Baghdad neighborhood has revealed that Iraqi authorities are paying lip service to human rights and rule of law.

The visit by Vice-President Tareq al-Hashemi found the jail over crowded with many women afflicted with contagious diseases due to lack of medicine and medical care.

"The tour has exposed a difficult and tragic situation in the whole process, starting with detention and ending with the horrific conditions of the prison," a statement by Hashemi's office said.

The prison is in the neighborhood of Kadhimiya and is believed to hold mainly Sunni Muslim women.

Many of the prisoners, the statement said, were detained because their husbands or sons were suspected of having links to forces resisting U.S. occupation.

"This means if anything that the women are taken hostages to exert pressure on their husbands who are wanted by the authorities," the statement said.

There were teenage women among the prisoners some of whom had spent several years behind bars, the statement added.

One women prisoner, Suaad Aziz, had told Hashemi that she was arrested while looking for her son who had disappeared for more than one year.

"I was a principal of a school in the Amiriya district of Baghdad. They have sentenced me to death and no one has ever asked me a single question why I was here," the statement reported Aziz as saying.

Thousands of Iraqis languish in scores of prisons in Iraq . U.S. troops have their own jails which they have constructed specifically to detain suspects. Iraqi authorities run their own prisons.

There are more than 30,000 Iraqis in jails run by the U.S. and Iraqi government and most of them have been incarcerated merely on suspicion and held without trial.

MYTH AND TRUTH OF HUMAN RIGHTS : Behind the U.S. Claims of Support for Democracy

Scroll down to the case of Political Prisoner Abdu Nasser Madany: Symbol of India's Inhumanity

by K. Hamza, India [Exclusive to New Trend]

The human rights literature is plethoric with high verbosity and voluminous maze of terminology. We have the United Nations with a grandiose Charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. But the inescapable fact remains that most of nations are not taking the implementation seriously.

The world's lone super power, the police man of the earth, the U.S., is boastful of its stand as the only protector and promoter of democracy and human rights. The alarming truth is that the Super Power has self-drafted jurisdiction and self-defined jurisprudence about human rights violation. The U.S. applies its arrogance to punish peaceful millions with bombardment, ethnic cleansing, flush and flood refugees depriving their right to life on a macro-scale, without authorization from the U.N. or the Security Council. In the modern world, the populace, ordinary men, women and children suffer under domestic, state-operated and even judicially legitimized intimation in almost all countries.

The U.S. president George Bush, on a mediaeval reason, that he had to take revenge and punish Saddam as "the man who tried to kill my father", the entire Iraq has been devastated under incessant bombing. The rest is history. The recently released snap-shots of American soldiers glee fully torturing naked and hooded Iraqi prisoners reveal the truth of human rights abuses. Even the U.S. newspapers cried hoarse on this sadistic, blatant and wanton criminal abuses of prisoners. The horrible pictures had appeared in the world media such as a female American soldier with a burning cigarette in her mouth cocking at a prisoner's private parts. The US soldiers, male and female, abusing and sexually humiliating Iraqi prisoners in Abu Ghraib. They are threatening detainees with rape, sodomizing detainees with chemical light, and using military dogs to frighten and intimidate detainees. When the pictures of such abuses flashed over the media, Bush said on television, "That is not the way we do things in America". Prisoners in a sack cloth like garment with a hood made of underwear over his head balancing on a box with wires in his hands. Admittedly, Saddam Hussein was notorious for perpetrating far more terrible forms of human rights abuses against Kurds, but those acts pale into insignificance in the light of paranoid sadistic behavior of American soldiers.

The people of Afghanistan had also suffered the atrocities of the U.S. attack just within 17 days after Bush took his oath of office. The Bush administration in its infancy tackled the menace of Taliban through war. He was a vigorous advocate of the promotion of democracy and liberation of Afghanistan people. The stories of the myth and truth of human rights are emanating from this war-torn tribal terrains of Afghanistan. The devilish devices of destruction and death were being used in Iraq and Afghanistan where the horrible scenes of infants with half their skulls blown away due to reckless American missile strikes could shudder the whole world. There was no outrage in the U.S. or Europe over the abuse of detainees at Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo and elsewhere in the CIA run secret torture cells.

Some years ago, the American legislators were seriously concerned with the human rights situation in India, particularly the treatment of prisoners in Punjab and elsewhere. The U.S .had threatened that India would be exempted from the most favoured nation treatment of Indian products. The U.S. noted that there were individuals being detained in the Indian jails, who had not been charged with specific crime, and recommended a fair and unbiased trails by the courts. A recent case in focus is the acquittal of Abdu Nasser Madany, the founder of Kerala-based Peoples' Democratic Party, who had been languishing in prison for over nine years without trial and bail. Eventually, he was acquitted on August 1, 2007 due to lack of proof of involvement in the terrorist case.

Madany is most eloquent and provocative orator and a crowd puller in the South India. In many places in Kerala, his speeches on contemporary issues the Muslim masses face, quoting lavishly from Qur'an and Hadees. would continue whole the night, after Isha prayer until fajr adhan was called out. He covers the subjects such as iman, dowry, purdah and love for the Prophet. He spoke against the injustice meted out to the oppressed Indian Muslims and Dalits, the down-trodden Hindu community. When Madany was arrested and put in jail, he was weighing 115 kilos and now his weight is just 46 kilos. The mental torture and solitary confinement during his nine years in prison rendered him with multiple diseases. Earlier in an assassination attempt by the hardcore Hindu nationalists, he had lost one of his legs below the knee. He is using an artificial leg.

Similar stories are emanating from Kashmir also. The number of women and children are becoming widows and orphans in the Valley. Muslims being labeled as terrorists are detained in Kashmir jails. In the wake of hue and cry of the international community, the Government of India has taken steps to curb human rights abuses perpetuated by the local police and paramilitary forces. It was some time in 1988 that reports of Amnesty International and New York Times on the alleged use of "pro-Government death squads in Punjab and the practice of hiring vigilantes prompted the government of India to tackle the issue.

Now the mercenaries make up a large part of the armed forces in Iraq under the supervision of the U.S. military. They execute military missions, but not responsible to Iraq or U.S .law either. They are engaged in "joy-ride shooting " of innocent Iraqi citizens. It is to be noted that the CIA's torture tactics in the Philippines, and My Lai massacre in Vietnam were executed by private security agencies to implement" CIA torture manual"

The U.S, duplicity is clear now. In 1988 the U.S. administration blamed India as a country of human rights violation. Further, it ignores the atrocities carried out by Israel against the Palestinians. Military curfew suddenly descends on Palestinians without rhyme or reason. Once the cur-few is clamped, the occupied Palestine is like being a prison. Deadly stand still, no schools, no traffic, no offices, no shops and no human movement on the streets. This is a callous disregard of Israelis to the interests and freedom of the Palestinians. Hundreds of women, men and children are denied free movements by their aggressive occupiers. Is it not violation of human rights ?

The egregious act of brutality and custodial torture on detained convicts, in a bid to extract false or inadmissible confessions .is an inhuman method being practiced in almost all civilized nations. But the U.S. administration often points its accusing finger to the inhuman treatment of people in other countries.

Washington's Hypocrisy Exposed Again to the World: What's Behind the Attempt to Bring up Armenian "Genocide?"

by Robert Miranda (Da'ud Ali Salaam), Milwaukee, Wisconsin - USA, Courtesy the Spanish Journal, October 15, 2007

Whatever the motives for recently introducing a resolution aimed at forcing the country of Turkey to recognize the actions of its leaders—almost 100 years ago—to label a World War I era of killings of Armenians by Ottoman Turkish forces as "genocide" in 1915, proves once again how ignorant and narrow-minded Washington has become.

The U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs passed a measure to label the killing of Armenians as "genocide" is strictly symbolic. The measure would no doubt create unnecessary hardships and headaches for the U.S. when building relations with Turkey.

This issue brought forth by the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs should leave us all bewildered. Why is the United States so embroiled in a matter that took place almost 100 years ago and under Ottoman Empire rule? Indeed, the Republic of Turkey did not exist until 1923.

In 2007, Turkey—now a NATO member and a key U.S. ally in the war on terror—acknowledges the fact that Armenians were massacred during a chaotic time, but that the killings were not a Turkish government sanctioned and organized campaign of genocide.

In fact, the massacres happened when aligned Turkish and Kurdish militias were engaged in battle against Armenian militias supported by Russia. Turkish and Kurdish militias organized themselves to defend the Eastern lands of Turkey, which Armenian militias were attempting to take away from them. Had the Armenians prevailed, the newly conquered Turkish territory would have been part of a greater Armenia, Turkey's eastern neighbor. The Turkish and Kurdish militias in defending their lands massacred the militias comprised of Armenians.

Yet, the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs has moved to press for calling the massacres as "genocide"; however, the motives for doing so are not yet clear.

The people of Turkey have labeled the measure being pushed by the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs as "A Bill of Hatred".

Turkish President Abdullah Gul said, "Unfortunately, some politicians in the United States have once again sacrificed important matters to petty domestic politics despite all calls to common sense."

Politicians and common sense in Washington are like oil and water—not going to mix.

Nonetheless, I'm always amused whenever hypocrisy rears its pointy little head from Washington. As it is now, our nation wants to label the killings of Armenians as "genocide", despite the fact that Turkey had recognized these deaths by calling them massacres.

As I stated earlier, I find this amusing because the United States has not come to accept the fact that it has conducted its own genocide of the Native-Americans who once ruled this vast land.

Only recently, former President Bill Clinton apologized formally to African-Americans for SLAVERY, yet, no reparations for this atrocity is being afforded to the Black race impacted by this inhumane act.

I have to point out, what was it that we did in Vietnam? Was this another act of Humanity? When are we going to finally acknowledge that what we did to the Vietnamese, with our napalm bombs and "puff the Magic Dragon machine guns" was not self-defense against Communist aggression, but a campaign of murder against a people who did nothing to threaten our sovereignty as a nation.

The American Corporation, Blackwater is a private military company that hires mercenaries engaging in Iraq today, yet recently the hired guns of this corporation killed children and civilians; where is the resolution calling for the criminal indictment of the CEO of this corporation?

Indeed, the Iraqis today, what are they calling our Military actions in Iraq?

Freedom? Liberty? Try murder. They call our military forces murderers.

If we condemn Turkey for what it did about 100 years ago, should we not also recognize Turkey for its Humanity when Spain expelled Jews in 1492? The entire Jewish community was forced out of Spain by the monarchy, Ferdinand and Isabella. The Jews faced certain death during the Inquisition. It was Turkey 's Ottoman Sultan, a Muslim, who welcomed them warmly into the country and afforded the expelled Jews sanctuary. To this day, Jews continue to live with the people of this Islamic nation.

To be sure, our leaders in Washington ignore American issues by not dealing with them suitably, and in doing so, continue to ignore wrongs that still need to be righted. Is it any wonder why the rest of the world looks upon our great country as the land led by hypocrites?
