A very nice d'ua for the Islamic new year from Br. Shamim Siddiqi [New York].
Please scroll all the way down.

Welcome to the New Islamic year 1428: Year of Struggle and Victory, inshallah.
by Kaukab Siddique

New Trend greets its Muslim readers on the occasion of the new Islamic Year, 1428, starting, inshallah on January 21. The Islamic calendar, started by 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, r.a., the second rightly guided Caliph, begins with an event which is CENTRAL to Islam but which most Muslims don't want to remember: the Hijra of Muhammad, pbuh, from Makka to Madina. Strangely enough, the 1st of Mohurram with which the new year begins, is also the date of the martyrdom of Umar, r.a., at the hands of an enemy to whom he had been too kind.

The Hijra is CENTRAL to Islam. Muhammad, pbuh, left his home city, which had rejected Islam, and went to a city which had accepted Islam. It is a symbolic but powerful negation of nationalism. The Qur'an has promised a tremendous blessing to those who do the Hijra. [3:195]

MUSLIMS of America should struggle to organize and mobilize on the basis of the Qur'an and the authentic Hadith. Anyone who cooperates with the oppressors must be rejected. Anyone who talks of recognizing the terror entity known as "israel" must be ostracized.

This year let us "surge" to free our leaders and our innocents, by peaceful means, from prison, and to recognize and support those of our leaders who are free. We have powerful leaders, tested and tried, in Imam Jamil Abdullah al-Amin, Imam Warith Deen Umar and Imam Musa from the African-American communities. A pleasant surprise is that the immigrant communities too have produced an outstanding leader in Imam Badi Ali who comes up to Islamic standards.

Among women too we have outstanding leaders so that the door through which the minions of Imperialism and Zionism were coming out has been closed. [See next item.]
Let us pray for the victory of Islam in Kashmir, Chechnya, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia and Sudan. Above all, let us pray for the defeat of Zionism and the dismantling of the Jewish terror entity known as "Israel."

Islamic Women Challenge Jewish Campaign Against Muslims in America

Friday, January 12, 2007, the National Association of Muslim American Women (NAMAW) filed a formal complaint with the US Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, Criminal Section, and also with the Executive Office for the United States Attorneys at the US Department of Justice. The complaint alleges that as a result of misleading and false information provided to US law enforcement agencies, the media and also to various governmental bodies, various Jewish organizations and individuals have sought to create an environment in the US that is hostile towards US Muslims, resulting in the deprivation, and violation of Muslim civil liberties and civil rights.

Sis. Maryam Fought to Get Right to Wear Hijab! Where are the Mosques of Louisiana?

Sis. Maryam Uloho imprisoned in Louisiana whose case we highlighted earlier in New Trend did not compromise on Hijab and is now respected in the prison where she is incarcerated. Dr. Mulazimuddin Rasool [Amherst, Massachusetts] is preparing an update on the case, urging the mosques [masjids] in Louisiana to come to the support of Sis. Maryam. She got a huge sentence on flimsy grounds. See next issue, inshallah.

Analysis by New Trend's Media Monitor
Bush Ready to Launch Attacks on Iran, or is it a Disinformation Campaign linked to Withdrawal? [See latest news first.]

Latest news:

1. Jan. 20: CNN says Moqtada al-Sadr is preparing to lay down his weapons!

2. Jan. 18. Two Kurdish brigades have been ordered by the U.S. to go to Baghdad to crush the Islamic resistance.

3. Fighting is heavy. A U.S helicopter went down on Jan. 20 with 13 dead. U.S. military deaths 3044 by Jan. 20, of which 41 were killed in January's 20 days.

Just about all analysts, left wing and right wing, believe that the Bush Administration is on the verge of carrying out a military assault on Iran. Certain military facts support this viewpoint. A U.S. carrier group has moved to the Gulf near Iran; another one is on the way. The argument is that if the U.S. can strike successfully at Iran, it will help Republicans in the 2008 elections. Otherwise the disaster Bush is undergoing in Iraq could lead to easy Democratic victory in the Presidential elections.

Latest U.S. actions underscore the possibilities of a move against Iran. In the Kurdish area of Irbil, the U.S. military swooped into the Iranian legation and arrested 7 Iranians described as diplomats by Iran but as military people by the U.S.

Then on January 18, the U.S. ransacked the offices of a spokesman of Moqtada al-Sadr in the Sadr City area of Baghdad and arrested the "spokesman" who remained unnamed [till named by the news media].

Owing to the Israeli element in the Bush Administration, an element of irrationality does exist. Even a totally disastrous course in U.S. foreign policy can be carried out to assuage the paranoia of the Jewish terrorist entity known as "Israel."

However, at the level of geopolitics and strategy, Iran is a natural ally of the U.S. in the effort to disunite and infiltrate the Muslim world. Iran has not fired a shot against the U.S. after 9.11. Iran's ally, Syria, did not attempt to carry out the slightest military action, not even a "minor border incident," when Israel tried to destroy Hizbullah and smashed Lebanon's economic system.
About a year back, Iran publicly announced a ONE BILLION DOLLAR investment in the Shi'ite administration installed by the U.S. in Iraq. The Iranians have an embassy in Baghdad and, as we just saw, a Consulate in Irbil, a Kurdish area. All this could not have happened without the complete agreement of the U.S. which has an armada of about 150,000 troops in Iraq.

So, WHAT'S REALLY GOING ON? New Trend's analysis is that the U.S. is trying to present the puppet Shi'ite "government" in Baghdad as an "independent" government which may even be at odds with the U.S. and which, being Shi'ite, has the "right" to be friendly with Iran whether the U.S. likes it or not. Note that Nuri al-Maliki first visited Tehran and then Bush in Washington, DC.

Of the Iranian "diplomats" arrested in Irbil, one was RELEASED the next day without fanfare and almost zero publicity in the U.S. media. Now the Iranian ambassador in Baghdad has issued a statement that the rest will be released shortly. [See Tehran Times, January 20.]

[Funnily enough, the puppet Kurdish administration too expressed "anger" at the U.S. raid on the Iranians in Irbil and claimed that it tried to block the abductors, who happened to be U.S. Special Forces. This was an elaborate affair.]

Now come to the arrest of al-Sadr's aide. Not a bullet was fired in the raid. No one was hurt. There was no air strike, no fire fight. The Sadris allowed their main man, second only to al-Sadr himself, to be taken away without any resentment at all.

It is quite possible that al-Sadr's hit squads have finished off most of the Sunnis it could get at. Now is the time for the Bush Administration to show that the killings were not carried out with the permission of the U.S. and that action will be taken against Moqtada al-Sadr's killers, and even al-Sadr might be arrested!

The Bush administration has gone to the extent of claiming that IED material is being provided to the Islamic [Sunni] resistance by Iran! but without any evidence at all. The Left and Right analysts who think Iran is going to be attacked at any moment did not ask: Why are there no informants pointing out the Iranians who are providing the IEDs so that they can be arrested? After all the U.S. is spending $1 billion a week in Iraq. There are deep rifts between Shi'ite groups, including steady murders of Shi'ites by Shi'ites in Basra, Najaf and Karbala, so informants should be easily available.
[According to the Lancet Study which says 650,000 Iraqis have been killed, 100,000 in U.S. aerial bombardments, tens of thousands of Shi'ites have been killed in Shi'ite versus Shi'ite murders.]

Net result of analysis: Iraq has an "independent" government which has natural links with Iran, but "we" will not allow Iran to take over completely. The MAIN OBJECTIVE of the Bush "surge" is to destroy the Islamic [Sunni] resistance with the help of the Shi'ites and secularized Kurds.

"Free Imam Jamil" An Evening at Masjid Al-Islam, Washington, DC
Imam Musa Striving for Justice in the Imam Jamil Case

By Nadrat Siddique

He is one of America's best and brightest orators. He is a nationally known and respected religious leader. He rid entire inner city neighborhoods of drugs, encouraged the establishment of small businesses, and established mentoring programs for black youth. For his efforts, he is currently serving a life term in Georgia State Prison. His name is Jamil Al-Amin.

Jamil Al-Amin was convicted for the murder of a sheriff's deputy after a trial in which very significant exculpatory evidence was never presented. The reason for this, given by some Al-Amin supporters, is that his attorneys were not paid, and hence plea bargained with the prosecution. The neglected exculpatory evidence includes: 1) the absence of wounds on Al-Amin's body when he was taken into custody (although the deputy involved in the incident which led to Al-Amin's imprisonment clearly stated that the suspect was shot and bleeding); 2) a confession for the shooting of the deputy by another man, Otis Jackson; 3) ballistic evidence showing that the deadly shots were not fired by any weapon which could be associated with Al-Amin.

A habeas corpus hearing determines whether a person is serving a lawful sentence and/or whether he or she should be released from custody (Blackstone). It is viewed as an opportunity for the defense to convince the court that previously suppressed or unknown evidence warrants a prisoner's release. In Al-Amin's case, the prosecution has repeatedly requested postponements of this hearing, perhaps indicating the strength of the unpresented evidence. The hearing is currently scheduled for February 27, 2007.

For an excellent background article on the case, see: http://www.thenation.com/doc/20020318/thelwell

On December 30, I attended a fundraiser for Imam Jamil Al-Amin at Masjid Al-Islam. The masjid stands proudly at the corner of Benning Road and C Street in Southeast DC, two blocks from the subway, in a poor black residential area, a far cry from the exclusive suburban mosques hidden away in the countryside, away from bus lines and poor people. I could imagine El-Hajj Malik Shabazz preaching at Masjid Al-Islam. The AmeriKKKan flag, found at the entrance of many U.S. masajid today, was nowhere to be found.

Inside, Imam Abdul Alim Musa was scheduled to lecture—but not before he personally served dinner to the men who were there to hear about the Jamil Al-Amin case. Imam Musa, for some reason, had determined that he—and only he—would serve food to the men. The result was a long line of hungry bruthas—perhaps an exercise in sabr? Just yards away, across the prayer hall, two sisters served food to the women. I found Imam Musa's wife, and introduced myself. She greeted me with a warm hug and welcomed me. Then I sat down with a group of young women, Amatullah, Tazkiya, and Hajure. As we talked, I realized how politically astute these young women were. Tazkiya, a college student, had spoken in public forums on Imam Jamil's case. Two of the sisters were either readers or contributors to New Trend. Masjid Al-Islam clearly did not limit its women to the baking committee.

Finally Imam Musa began his presentation. A tall, built brother with dark skin, graying beard, and just the hint of a stoop that betrayed his position as a veteran in the Islamic movement, he looked distinguished in all black as he took the podium. He spoke comfortably without notes, his speech articulate and sprinkled with wicked humor.

"What makes Imam Jamil so special?" he asked the audience.

"He is the only one on the COINTELPRO list who's still alive," he said, referring to the U.S. government's counterintelligence program, which used highly questionable means to target Black, Native American, and other activists during the 1960s and 1970s. "And he was the only non-immigrant imam on the Majlis-e-Shura [of North America.] The immigrant imams on the Shura Council, they couldn't forecast things like Imam Jamil."

"The big crews have not helped," Imam Musa continued. He'd asked Muzammil Siddiqui and others for support for Imam Jamil—to no avail. Then he'd suggested if they didn't want to help directly, they could just give him a letter of support for Imam Jamil—again to no avail.

I was aghast. The very Shura Council of which Imam Jamil was a member up until his arrest, refused to support him! What happened to the "Muslims are part of one body; if one part hurts, the rest feels the pain" popularly spouted at ISNA conventions and elsewhere?

"All the big fundraisers, they done sold out" said Imam Musa, shaking his head. "We Americans, they say, we going to stand up for America."

"Remember when they kicked in the doors in Virginia, tore through their homes, with the wives sitting there with no hijab on?" said Imam Musa, referring to the March 20, 2002 FBI raids on the homes and offices of officials connected to IIIT, SAAR, WAMY, Safa Trust and other pro-government Muslim organizations. "Well, they [the Muslim leaders] stayed mad for two days. After that, it was business as usual."

Imam Musa started fundraising. The atmosphere was solemn, quite unlike other fundraisers I'd experienced in the past, perhaps in the realization that the collective efforts of the community could determine whether a beloved imam-political prisoner would continue to suffer in jail.

Imam Musa teased and cajoled the congregation into emptying their pockets. During a lull in the fundraising, he told the audience, "Yeah I know, if you or I donate $50, we may not eat for a week. Them that got it, ain't givin' it. So, we gotta do this for our brutha."

The resident Muslim women's organization, An-Nisa of Masjid Al-Islam, donated $250, which they'd worked hard to raise, encouraging others in the audience to follow suit. Masjid Al-Islam's working class Muslims, slowly but surely donated their hard earned dollars to Imam Jamil's case. The imam himself donated a large bundle of bills, all one dollar bills, he jokingly assured the congregation.

The fundraising came to an end, and Imam Musa talked in a somber tone about Al-Amin's condition. The Atlanta imam had already been imprisoned for six-and-a-half years, and serious psychological changes occurred in a prisoner after his sixth and seventh year, said Imam Musa. The prisoner's mind gets used to the concrete and the bars.

"Meaning he may be broken, disoriented, his spirit destroyed" I thought to myself. No wonder Islam talked extensively about freeing the slave, the modern day versions of whom, off course, fill America's jails.

"That is why it is so important we get him out. We need him out here," said Imam Musa.

During Q&A, a non-Muslim progressive, one of the few whites in the audience, brought up the important point that the very habeas corpus rights, which Imam Jamil had invoked as a legal defense, were under attack by the Bush regime.

Had any lawyers expressed an interest in representing the imam pro-bono, I asked. Imam Musa said they had not, running scared after the Lynne Stewart witch hunt.

The shooting in which Imam Jamil was railroaded and the Saddam execution both occurred on the eves of Eid, the former in 2000, the latter in 2006, pointed out a sagacious Caucasian brother. Subjecting the Muslim community to such acts on a major Muslim holiday exhibited the arrogant character of Dajjal.

I left the event inspired that this independent mosque, with its fiery leader, not only refused to celebrate the Eid on the incorrect date, despite the Saudi dictate, but used the eve of the holiday to bring to light the victimization of an innocent Muslim imam. And the next morning, the congregation would again come together for an Eid prayer, held according to sunnah. This, it seemed to me, was the true spirit of the Eid!

Further donations for Imam Jamil's defense are badly needed. Checks may be made out to the Masjid (with Imam Jamil fund written on the memo line) and mailed to:

Israeli Professor Arrested: Suspect in Murder of Wife

On January 8, a tenured professor at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Rafael Robb, was arrested and charged with first degree murder in the death of his wife Ellen. Why are the major TV outlets refusing to discuss the case although they discuss other crimes at length and in detail? One reason could be that Dr. Robb is an Israeli who graduated from Hebrew University in 'Israel.'

What probably happened in this murder is outlined in the prosecutor's Affidavit of Probable Cause. New Trend urges Fox TV, MSNBC and CNN to discuss the case on an ongoing basis so that people may understand the case when it comes to trial. A murder suspect from an Ivy League university should be of great interest to any journalist worth the name. Why the silence in the media?

AFFIDAVIT OF PROBABLE CAUSE

I. CRIME SCENE: MURDER OF ELLEN ROBB

On Friday December 22, 2006 at 1:45 PM, Dr. Rafael Robb called the Upper Merion Police Department to report that he arrived home and found his wife, Ellen Robb, murdered inside their home. Dr. Robb called the Upper Merion Police main number from his cellular telephone. As recorded in his call to the police, Dr. Robb told the dispatcher "I just came home and found my wife murdered on the kitchen floor" and that "she was killed". When the dispatcher asked how he could tell his wife had been murdered, Robb replied "I know, her head is cracked."

Upper Merion Police immediately responded to the Robb residence located at 670 Forest Road in Wayne, Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County. Police Officers Michael Ballman, Patrick Krouse and Gerald Davis arrived within minutes of the call. While Officer Ballman encountered and remained outside with Dr. Robb, Officers Krouse and Davis went into the home. Inside they located the obviously deceased body of Ellen Robb. While conducting a protective sweep of the house, officers opened the door to the Robbs' daughter's bedroom, freeing, then immediately containing, Copper the small family dog. While outside with Officer Ballman, Dr. Robb pointed out a broken window at the rear of the residence.

Montgomery County Coroner Jeanne Ottinger pronounced the victim dead shortly after 4:00PM. As part of Coroner Ottinger's on-scene examination, she noted that the victim's body was very cold to the touch and there was generalized rigor, or rigidity, in the victim's extremities. This suggested to Coroner Ottinger that Ellen Robb had been dead well before noon.

Detectives from the Upper Merion Township Police Department and the Montgomery County District Attorney's Detective Bureau commenced a joint homicide investigation.

II. AUTOPSY AND INITIAL SEARCH

A. AUTOPSY

On Saturday, December 23, 2006 Forensic Pathologist Dr. Ian Hood conducted an autopsy on Ellen Robb's body. According to Dr. Hood, the victim sustained multiple blows to various locations on her head. Dr. Hood opined she suffered a wound to the top back of her skull, and multiple blows to the front of her head and face that the killer inflicted while she was lying on her back on the kitchen floor. The force of these repeated blows crushed the victim's face and caused her skull to fracture in numerous places. Dr. Hood noted the victim also suffered defensive wounds on both her hands and that two of her fingers were crushed. Dr. Hood opined that Ellen Robb was killed with a weapon with a long, cylindrical shaft.

He determined the cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma to the head; the Manner of Death is Homicide.

B. INITIAL SEARCH (670 FOREST ROAD)

1. Broken Door

Members of the Montgomery County Detective Bureau's Forensic Sciences Unit processed the scene of this homicide. The Robb home is a single-family, split-level residence with an attached garage. At the rear of the residence, detectives found the wooden door with the broken window as described by Dr. Robb.

The door is a wooden entry door with two glass windowpanes, one over the other. Two locking mechanisms existed, one a thumb turn on the doorknob and the other a double cylinder deadbolt requiring a key on each side. Both mechanisms were in the unlocked position. A key was in the double cylinder lock on the inside of the door. The door itself was in the fully closed position but, as indicated, unsecured. The broken window described by Dr. Robb is the lower of the two windowpanes. It was broken next to the door locks, providing reach-through access to the locks from the outside. The glass shards resulting from the breaking of the door were found scattered across the laundry room floor. In addition, the door opens in with a slight step down when a person enters. The sweep of the door, then, does not contact the floor. Police observed that the door did not disturb the broken glass shards laying on the floor inside.

Detective J. Michael Santarelli of the Montgomery County Detective Bureau examined the glass fragments that lay scattered across the floor and determined that anyone coming in the entry door, into the laundry room, would necessarily have walked on at least some of the broken shards of glass. Upon close inspection, Detective Santarelli found that none of the glass shards on the floor bore the characteristics of glass that has been compressed against a hard surface (i.e., the floor). There was no evidence these glass pieces had been crushed, chipped or finely cracked. Furthermore, no pieces of glass were found tracked or kicked beyond about five feet from the entry door.

2. Body of Ellen Robb

The fatal assault of Ellen Robb occurred in the kitchen of the home. She was found lying on her back in a massive pool of blood. Two recently wrapped Christmas gifts were on the kitchen table. Her glasses were neatly placed on the table. One of the gifts already had a completed To/From tag attached. The To/From tag for the second gift was completed but not yet attached to the gift; it was still lying on the table. Both of the tags were completed with pink ink. Detectives found the pink pen lying in the blood, next to her body. Upon inspection, detectives noted that the tip of the pen was cracked and a small portion of the tip of the pink pen was missing. They found the missing piece of the pen on the victim's body during her autopsy. The fact that the broken pen and it's broken-off piece were next to and on the victim's body, respectively, and the fact the victim's fingers were severely injured, leads us to conclude that she was holding the pink pen at the time she tried to defend herself from her attacker. Furthermore, this set of circumstances also supports our inference that her murder took place while she was preparing the gifts. There were just the two wrapped gifts present and no apparent unwrapped ones.

The trauma to the victim's head was so severe that seasoned homicide and forensic detectives initially believed she had suffered a gunshot wound. It was not until completion of the autopsy that detectives confirmed she had been severely bludgeoned to death.

That the victim might have died as a result of a gunshot wound was also the first impression of Montgomery County Detective John Finor, a ballistics expert. Prior to his employment with the Montgomery County Detective Bureau, Detective Finor served the Philadelphia Police Department for 32 years, first as a patrolman, then as a Firearms Examiner. One of his regular duties was to assist members of the Homicide Division with their examination of fatal shooting scenes.

3. Bloodstain Evidence

Blood spatter stains were present on all four kitchen walls, the floor and the ceiling. The multiple, distinct blood spatter patterns are consistent with Dr. Hood's conclusion that Ellen Robb was struck numerous times with the murder weapon where the weapon would become covered in blood during the attack and "cast-off" that blood to stain the ceiling, cabinets and walls. Despite an exhaustive search of the house, yard and surrounding streets, the police have not found a murder weapon. However, in the garage of the home, detectives discovered tools hanging from the wall all in a line. There was a single space where a tool previously had hung between two other tools. Police have not located the tool that hung in that spot.

Detectives discovered bloodstain evidence in other areas of the home. They observed a trail of blood that led from the kitchen, through the family room, and into the garage. This particular evidence consisted of blood droplets, smears and distinct footwear impressions. Many of these blood droplets were nearly circular, consistent with having dripped vertically from a hand, weapon or other item. The trail of presumed blood droplets ended in the attached garage. The large, bloody shoeprints faded in intensity as the wearer of the footwear, the murderer, made his way from the kitchen to the garage. Detectives did not find any footwear in the house that could have produced the bloody shoeprints.

A Beautiful Du'a for the Islamic New Year 1428

May Allah make the ensuing Hijrah Year 1428 full of His blessings/Barakah for the Muslim Ummah and help it in removing its sectarian differences that are eating away its vitals.

May Allah make this year a turning point of Islamic history towards progress, stability, freedom from foreign socio-economic-political domination and spreading His Deen all around.

May Allah give Tawfeeq to World Muslim leadership to work jointly and concertedly for the emancipation and consolidation of Muslim power and energies towards the emergence of the desired and "destined" Islamic Era for global peace and security that West could not attain so for. Amen!

Islamic Women Challenge Jewish elites' Campaign
Continued from the top

The complaint lists the American-Israel Political Action Committee (AIPAC), American Jewish Committee (AJC), Anti-Defamation League (ADL), American Jewish Congress B'nai B'rith, the Jewish Council on Public Affairs, and individuals such as Daniel Pipes, Steven Emerson, Rita Katz, Steven Schwartz, Evan Kohlman, and others.

In its complaint, the National Association of Muslim American Women (NAMAW) says, "Jewish organizations and activists in the US may have created enemies lists that include the names of Muslims, Arabs, white nationalists organizations, and others that they have targeted as threats to, or enemies of the state of Israel." The complaint also says that NAMAW believes that "these Jewish organizations and activists have used their financial resources and also their formidable political influence to purposefully poison public opinion against Muslims, Arabs and Islam in an attempt to demonize and vilify the same for political purposes, and also to create an environment conducive to the deprivation and violation of Muslim and Arab constitutional rights, and especially the repression of Muslim religious and political freedoms, and free speech."

The complaint consists of five pages of accusation, supported by more than 100 pages of supporting documentation extracted from transcripts of Congressional testimonies, articles, and public statements. NAMAW along with alleging that Jewish organizations and activists sought to demonize, and vilify Muslims, Arabs, and Islam, says that these same people may have also committed perjury in testimonies provided to the US Congress. The group claims that Jewish organizations and activists may have purposely given false impressions, and made false statements aimed at misleading the media, policy makers, law enforcement, and various government agencies. They believe that these false statements led to an aggressive campaign in the US to suppress Muslim rights. The complaint also says that NAMAW suspects that the Jewish campaign against Muslims and Islam in the US, has been ongoing for more than 10 years.

The group asks the Department of Justice to investigate its claims, and to work with the Muslim community to dispel myths and lies that have demonized Muslims, Arabs and Islam. They are also requesting that the DOJ develop and implement programs aimed at healing US society of the harsh racial and religious polarization resulting from what they believe is an ongoing and criminal hate campaign against Muslims, Arabs and Islam.
