Hadith of the Week

Narrated by Abu Huraira, r.a.:

Allah 's Apostle said, "Treat women nicely, for a women is created from a rib, and the most curved portion of the rib is its upper portion, so, if you should try to straighten it, it will break, but if you leave it as it is, it will remain crooked. So treat women nicely."

Interesting Dialogue Between Two New Trend Activists.

As-Salaamu-'Alaikum Sis. Nadrat,
I find your marathon articles very inspirational! May Allah reward your efforts to bring attention to political prisoners held in America. What you do takes serious courage!

Stay energized and keep inspiring people.

Salaam,
Sis. 'Aisha

WA beloved Sr. Aisha -
Thank you so much for the kind words. Indeed running marathons to call attention to prominent political prisoners allows me to combine twin passions: fighting for political prisoners and running. At the same time, I recognize that merely running for our long-suffering and extremely courageous political prisoners is of limited utility in effecting their freedom. And that, of course, is the ultimate aim.

So, it can be frustrating at times, and I definitely feel like I don't do enough. I do try to work with organizations like the Jericho Movement and Jamaat al-Muslimeen, which advocate for PPs, and I encourage others to do the same.
I'm grateful for the contact. I've long admired your writing, and preferentially distribute editions of the New Trend which contain your pieces in the DC area. Keep speaking truth to power!

Hasbun Allah,
Nadrat Siddique

 Palestine

Dozens of Gazan families prepared to resume the Great March of Return after demonstrations were hindered in response to Israel's bloody campaign in the strip last month.

Reeling from the upsurge of agression, in which precision airstrikes targeted homes of Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants, protestors in Gaza have been mobilising under the fresh slogan calling for Palestinian unity and the return of Jerusalem as their capital.

The official committee which organises the protest movement called for maximum participation to honour the "legacy of martyrs, vows of prisoners and wounds of the maimed", according to Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Great Return Marches had been curtailed in previous months, due to a flare up of violence between Israel and Hamas' rival militant group, Islamic Jihad (PIJ).

The spate of violence saw the assisination of a high profile commander in PIJ, Baha Abu al-Ata. 34 Palestinians, including women and children, were killed in airstrikes.

The Great March of Return began on March 30, 2018. According to the Jabalia-based Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, 213 have been killed while taking part in the protests.

The figure includes 46 women and children, nine disabled people, four paramedics and two journalists

The protesters demand the right to return to their ancestors' homes, from which they were forcefully expelled in 1948 to clear the way for Israel's creation.

According to scholarly estimates, Zionist millitias removed some 700,000 Palestinian villagers from their native lands.

The protesters are also demanding an end to the 12-year-long Israeli blockade, which has crippled life in the strip.

Religious test for migrants a reflection of bigotry as India's state policy say Indian Americans Citizenship Amendment Bill to exclude Muslim migrants from any path to citizenship

December 9, 2019

The Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC), an advocacy group dedicated to safeguarding India's pluralist and tolerant ethos, today strongly condemned the move to turn into law the Citizenship Amendment Bill, and termed the bill a "reflection of bigotry as India's state policy."

The drive to legislate exclusion of one religious community once again exposes the socially divisive agenda of the Hindutva rightwing forces in India that aim to reconstitute India into a Hindu theocracy by subverting the Constitution from its pluralist moorings.

Prior to the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) it was the National Register of Citizens (NRC) that sought to turn over a million Indians, many of whom have lived in Assam for generations, into stateless aliens. Although the NRC was primarily targeted at Muslims, in a move intended to boost Hindutva politics in Assam, it backfired and ended up designating many Hindus as aliens. The Citizenship Amendment Bill apparently seeks to remedy that by explicitly calling out Muslim migrants as ineligible for citizenship. In order for India's continued existence as a secular polity, it is essential to expose Hindutva's supremacist agenda in comprehensive terms.

The short term goal is clearly to re-designate Hindus who were stripped of citizenship by the ill-conceived NRC as "persecuted" religious refugees, primarily from Bangladesh. This would then leave the Assamese Muslims with no recourse to getting their citizenship back.

The Bill's mandate is to designate only non-Muslim migrants from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh as eligible for Indian citizenship on grounds of persecution in their home countries, while denying Muslim Rohingya migrants from Myanmar the same refugee status.

"This two-pronged attack on millions of Indian Muslim citizens, as well as legitimate Muslim refugees from neighboring countries not only smacks of Islamophobia, but is inhuman, immoral and a violation of accepted norms of civilized societies and nation states," said Mr. Ahsan Khan, President of IAMC.

"Attempts to marginalize 200 million Indian Muslims based on a bigoted worldview can bring no good to the nation," added Mr. Khan.

That said, progressive elements in India are deeply concerned that in its trademark style the BJP will subvert the law by coercion, pressure tactics and by exploiting possible legal loopholes. This was precisely the playbook followed when it revoked the constitutionally mandated special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

It is noteworthy that Indian Muslims have long been economically marginalized. The more obvious toxic release of Hindutva forces in the country (spearheaded by the RSS) seeks to crush their spirit and social status as well as render them illegal through various contrivances such as the NRC and CAB.

"As citizens of the world and as human beings India's rapid descent into fascism should concern us all," said Mr. Afzal Ali, Vice-President of IAMC. "As Martin Luther King Jr. famously said, 'Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,'" added Mr. Ali.

Closer scrutiny of the Bill reveals a pattern of religious and racial discrimination. The exclusion of Tamil Hindus from Sri Lanka is no oversight. It lays bare the BJP's narrow minded 'Hindi-Hindu-Hindustan' (One language-One religion-One nation) approach to nationhood.

While harping on the lofty ideal of providing refuge to those who are persecuted on religious grounds, the BJP is actively undermining the status of minorities in general and Muslims in particular. It is also playing appeasement politics, something it has long accused various opposition parties of doing.

IAMC has lauded resistance to the Bill from some Opposition parties and called on all people of conscience to exert greater effort in preventing India from engaging in a war with its own citizens.

Khutba

 Jummah Khutba

Qur'an was Revealed as Part of a Process.
Islam is winning Globally, not losing.

On December 13, Br. Kaukab Siddique gave the Juma' khutba at Masjid Jamaat al-Muslimeen in Baltimore, Owing to efforts to develop new leadership at the masjid, 5 khateebs have emerged and Br. Kaukab gives only one khutba a month [after giving khutbas regularly over most of 30 years.]

Apples were distributed this juma' to incite better health.

Also a beautiful Islamic art book produced by sisters led by Sis. Hedaya in Atlanta was given to 10 people who have teenagers in their families.

Here is an outline of the points made in the khutba.

Text #1

"The Believers, men and women, are protectors one of another: they enjoin what is just, and forbid what is evil: they observe regular prayers, practise regular charity, and obey Allah and His Messenger. On them will Allah pour His mercy: for Allah is Exalted in power, Wise." [The Qur'an 9:70]

Text #2.

"O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you inthe sight of Allah is (one who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things)." [The Qur'an 49:13]

  1. Christians are our friends but there is no evidence that Jesus, pbuh, was born on December 25. Jesus, pbuh, did not celebrate his birthday nor did his disciples.

  2. Islam is based on the Qur'an and authentic hadith. Muhammad, pbuh, was the last prophet and messenger of Allah. Anyone proclaiming prophethood after him is not part of Islam.

  3. Islam has prohibited sects. We only recognize interpretations of Qur'an and hadith such as in Hanafi, Maliki, Shaf'ai, Hanbali, Ahle hadith not sects.

  4. Sects emerge when one sahabi [Companion] of the prophet, pbuh, is exalted above all others, as has been done in the case of Ali, r.a.

Abu Bakr, Umar, Usman and Ali, Allah be pleased with them, and all sahaba, r.a., are to be respected and honored.

  5. Owing to the tremendous oppression of Muslims in Palestine, Kashmir, China and Burma, many Muslims have started thinking of themselves as victims.

  6. Islam and Muslims are winning although the progress is slow. The first sign was that the Soviet Union was forced tp withdraw from Afghanistan for the first time in the history of Russia. The Soviet empire collapsed.

  7. Part 2

  8. Islam forced the US to withdraw from Iraq. Remember that Obama was elected on the promise of withdrawal from Iraq.

Who could have thought that Islam would dare to face America on the battlefield.

Then the Islamic State emerged. It faced a storm of propaganda from the West, so much so that many Muslims started thinking that the Islamic State is not Islamic.

  9. Islam is resurgent in Africa too. Only yesterday Muslims delivered a stunning defeat to regime troops backed by France in Niger.

  10. Islam is a process. We can see that in the process of the prohibition of liquor and intoxicants and in the prohibition of interest. Look at Sura 2 verse 219 where the Qur'an opposes liquor but also mentions some benefits in it.

  11. In sura 4 verse 43, Muslims were told not to come to prayer with their minds befogged by liquor. There are FIVE prayers, so that prohibition radically reduced time space for drinking.

  12. Then in sura 5 verse 90, all intoxicants were banned as abominations.

  13. Muslims, perhaps owing to male dominance in current Muslm thinking, often forget that the same process applies to the rights of women.

  14. Muslim scholars keep repeating sura 4, verse 34, which teaches men to provide for and protect their wives. It also gives them advice on disciplining their wives.

  15. Sura 4 : 34 was revealed when the Islamic community was just beginnng to be formulated. Men were told to provide for and protect their wives. Women were told to give up the easy going pre-Islamic life style.

  16. But then in sura 24, even in allegations of outright sexual misconduct, there is no scope for the husband disciplining the wife. Such allegations simply lead to the annulment of marriage.

  17. Then came absolute equality with conduct as the only standard of nobility. The words are:

"The believing men and the believing women are EACH OTHER's protecting frienda and guardians." [Sura Tauba.]

May Allah forgive our sins and shortcomings. May Allah help us to study the Qur'an and the authentic hadith every day. May Allah give us spouses and children who will stand up for Islam.

Planned Attacks on Islamic Students
by Qaiser Sharif

LAHORE- Dec 13: Declaring the attack on the students of International Islamic University Islamabad as a pre-planned move, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Senator Sirajul Haq has demanded arrest of those involved in the killing of the IJT leader and all others who hatched the conspiracy to create unrest and anarchy in the institution.

Addressing the student gathering after leading funeral prayer of Islami Jamiat Talba leader Syed Tufailur Rahman at IIUI on Friday, he held the university management equally responsible for the attack, questioning who allowed the attackers to enter the university with weapons.
Three JI workers were killed in a broad daylight in Muredki a few days ago and now the miscreants took life of the young student, he said, adding the incidents were the proof of the government;s complete failure to protect the lives of the people. A law of jungle was prevailing in the biggest province of the country, he added.

Siraj rejected the statement of the local police official who termed the incident a result of a clash between two student organizations. He said the police and university administration were intentionally trying to hide the facts. He said the miscreants attacked the peaceful exhibition and a large number of the students were eye witness to it. An ethnic group which was active in the IIUI under patronage of university administration was involved in the act of violence, he added. Siraj, however, urged the IJT members to exercise restraint and be patient. He also warned the government not to test the patience of the students and put the criminals behind bar. He regretted that educational institutions and hospitals were under attack and rulers were posing as silent spectator.

Morningside Murder
by Sis. Aisha [Jamaat al-Muslimeen.]

New York City - On Wednesday evening (12/12), Tessa Majors, an 18 year old Barnard College student, was found by the stairs of Morningside Park, near 116th street. The reports were that she had gone out for an evening jog where she was approached by teenagers trying to rob her. Then, she was stabbed multiple times and left for dead. The police have arrested a 13 and 14 year old but say that a third person, who is suspected of the actual stabbing, is still being sought.

The 13 year old, who attends a nearby middle school, has stated that he and his two friends went to the park to rob people.

It's the same ol' thing: The police rounded up teenagers in the area only to have to release them, later. The Legal Aid attorney for the 13 year old suspect has stated that the police have nothing but the boy's statement. A bloody 4-inch knife was found nearby and is still being analyzed for fingerprints and DNA. So how these two boys were found is in itself suspect, especially since the police were questioning many teens for a couple of days. As usual, the police have the whole story before all of the characters are even present to tell it and no one is saying much except the youngest suspect.

At least 20 people have come forward to say that they have been robbed in the park, yet many politicians and police say the park is safe. Could police under reporting crime be the culprit? In an effort to make gentrified Harlem, which is where Columbia is located, seem even safer than it really is, the police precincts have discouraged crime victims from reporting robberies and altercations.

I feel awful that the Majors Family sent their daughter here to attend college only to lose her after a few months in this God-forsaken city! I pray that the police find who is truly responsible and not rushing to make arrests. I have used this park as a thruway, at times. There are a lot of Columbia student housing there and then there is Mt. Sinai (formerly St. Luke's) Hospital. But, there is not a lot of foot traffic throughout the day and it has always been that way.

Note: There is a disparity in how boys and girls are raised in this society. The girls must be home by sundown while their younger brothers can hang out doing Allah knows what! Both boys and girls should be home by sundown unless they have after-school activities.

Ironically, many black parents believe that it is okay to let their sons hang out at night where they can be exposed to danger because they are the stronger sex but they admonish these boys for speaking their minds in school out of fear of the "Angry Black Male" stigma. Shai'tan is laughing at this logic because he knows the path from the streets leads to hell-fire while speaking one's mind shows intelligence.

Soccer star Mesut Özil under fire in China for criticizing Muslim detention camps.

Özil's social media posts were met by criticism online in China, and an apparent decision from Chinese TV not to broadcast Sunday's marquee game involving his club Arsenal.

China's approach to human rights and its relationship with global sports was once again in the spotlight this weekend after a soccer star criticized the country's treatment of its Uighur Muslim minority.

Mesut Özil, a prominent player for English soccer club Arsenal, denounced China's policies toward its Muslim residents in a post on Twitter and Instagram Friday.
He was met by criticism online in China, and an apparent decision from Chinese TV not to broadcast Sunday's marquee game involving the club.

The controversy comes months after the NBA faced a sustained backlash after Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey expressed apparent support for protests in Hong Kong.

The high-profile incident developed into a crisis for the league.

Now soccer may have to confront the same questions.
In his social media posts Özil, who is Muslim, called Uighurs "warriors who resist persecution" and criticized both China's crackdown and the silence of Muslims in response.

He told his more than 20 million followers, in a post translated from Turkish: "Qurans are burned, mosques were closed down, Islamic theological schools, madrasas were banned, religious scholars were killed one by one. Despite all this, Muslims stay quiet."

Arsenal, which has a large following in China and has previously toured the country, sought to distance itself from the comments.

In a statement posted to its official account on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, Arsenal insisted that the player was not speaking for the club and that it remains apolitical.

"The content he expressed is entirely Özil's personal opinion," the statement said.

But on Sunday, the state-run newspaper Global Times said state-run CCTV would no longer be broadcasting Sunday's English Premier League clash between Arsenal and Manchester City.

It said the decision was made after Özil's "false comments on Xinjiang disappointed Chinese fans and football governing authorities."

Arsenal's post on Weibo was met with angry replies, with one showing a shredded Özil soccer jersey next to a pair of scissors and others demanding he be expelled from the club.

The response from China echoed that which met the Rockets and the NBA in October.

The broadcasts of preseason NBA games were canceled and events in the country were met with protests, throwing a wrench into the league's push to cultivate loyal spectators and court powerful investors in the country.

Arsenal, and the Premier League more broadly, has similarly tried to expand its Chinese following. The club opened its first Arsenal-themed sports bar and restaurant in Shanghai last year.

But human rights issues have now again reared their head.

An estimated 1 million people have been detained in China's network of Muslim internment centers across the western province of Xinjiang.

After long denying Uighur, Kazakh and Kyrgyz ethnic minorities were being detained on accusations of terrorism or extremist leanings, Chinese authorities began to acknowledge the existence of these camps in late 2018.

However, officials said the centers are vocational training centers for the unemployed and boarding schools.

Documents from state authorities leaked earlier this year revealed the camps were designed for ideological transformation, political brainwashing and erasing culture.

New York-based nonprofit Human Rights Watch said in a 2018 report that China was inflicting "rampant abuses" including torture and unfair trials on the Muslim population.

Sports stars aren't the only social media users attempting to spread awareness of the issue.
