Hadith of the Week

NARRATOR Abdullah ibn Abbas
SAHIH MUSLIM
HADITH No 2391

Kurayb said: Umm Fadl, daughter of Harith, sent him (Fadl, i.e. her son) to Mu'awiyah in Syria. I (Fadl) arrived in Syria, and did the needful for her. It was there in Syria that the month of Ramadan commenced. I saw the new moon (of Ramadan) on Friday. I then came back to Medina at the end of the month. Abdullah ibn Abbas asked me (about the new moon of Ramadan) and said: When did you see it? I said: We saw it on Friday night. He said: (Did) you see it yourself? I said: Yes, and the people also saw it so they observed fast and Mu'awiyah also observed fast. Thereupon he said: But we saw it on Saturday night. So we shall continue to observe the fast until we complete thirty (fasts) or we see it (the new moon of Shawwal). I said: Is the sighting of the moon by Mu'awiyah not valid for you? He said: No; this is how the Messenger of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) has commanded us. Yahya ibn Yahya was in doubt (whether the word used in the narration by Kurayb) was Naktafi or.

Comments : Dr. Omar Afzal, reliable scholar in crescent sighting says, there is a chance of sighting on Monday. So Ramadan will begin on Tuesday June 7, inshAllah.

Crescent sighting is not possible on Sunday June 5.

Latest Khutba

 Dr Kaukab Siddique

Are we Going to have a Real Ramadan or just what everyone does without being Transformed?
How to Fast when Wars are going on against Muslim Ummah. Millions Oppressed and downtrodden.

On June 3, Br. Kaukab Siddique gave the juma' khutba at Masjid Jamaat al-Muslimeen in Baltimore, Maryland.
Audience members say no one gives this kind of khutba and as this is a small masjid, this khutba should be posted on line for sharing across America, inshaAllah.

5 Texts:

"This is the Book; in it is guidance sure, without doubt, to those who fear Allah [have taqwa]" The Quran 2:2

"O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you, even as it was prescribed for those before you, that ye may ward off (evil) [have taqwa]" 2:183

" Permitted to you, on the night of the fasts, is the approach to your wives. They are your garments and ye are their garments." 2:187

Even in divorce "....Nor should ye treat them with harshness...." 4:19

"O ye who believe! If a wrongdoer [FASIQ] comes to you with any news, ascertain the truth, lest ye harm people unwittingly, and afterwards become full of repentance for what ye have done. " 49:6

  1. What's the purpose of fasting? It is taqwa. What is taqwa? It's difficult to translate. It has layers of meaning such as: I. Fear of Allah. ii. Changing our attitude in all unjust forms of behavior. iii. Bringing the sacred, the goodness, compassionate behavior and speaking the truth into our lives.

  2. Of course we must start with ourselves. Follow the rules. Eat right. Pray. Read the Qur'an. Drive away all satanic influences.

  3. Seek Allah's forgiveness for the wrongs we have done, major and minor. Allah accepts all repentance which is sincere. This is the month of forgiveness. Let us forgive all those who have wronged us and let us seek forgiveness for the wrong we have done.

  4. As Muslims, we are obliged to move against wrong doing and oppression. Remember the plural in sura al-Fatiha. "Show US the straight path." Salvation is not exclusive of all humanity.

  5. Fasting is aimed at TAQWA [awareness]. Are we aware of our global ummah, the lack of enough food and shelter, the lack of clean water, the lack of basic human rights.

  6. How can we be feasting every iftar while the ummah lacks food or good food!

  7. There cannot be an Islamic community unless we honor, respect and include Muslim women in all that is important for us.

    1. How can there be true Islam if we mistreat women. Violence against women is destroying our communities just as it is destroying non-Muslim communities. Rape is a capital crime in Islam. Can you think of the Prophet, pbuh, EVER pushing women around, bad mouthing them, humiliating them. Harshness towards women is not allowed EVEN in DIVORCE.

    2. So if we fast and yet mistreat our wives even when fasting, we are violating all that is sacred: the mother, the wife, the daughter, the comrade in our daily struggle.

  8. We have taqwa, inshaAllah, about proper wudu and the qibla and the adhan and the salat, but do we have taqwa about the occupation of Muslim lands and the bombing and "droning" of Muslims?

  9. Are we being affected by the stories the western media tell us? We know that they are Zionists but we still, gradually, owing to 24/7 propaganda, believe all or some of the horror stories about the mujahedeen and particularly the Islamic State.

  10. The Quran commands us to investigate the reports brought by fasiqueen. We don't investigate and the wrong doers are good at presenting propaganda as the truth.

  11. All the stuff pouring out of TV and western media is kufr. Even then we get affected by it. How can our fasting be okay if we are fooled by Zionist propaganda.

  12. We know that racism is there and we try to keep it at a distance. How is it that we don't speak against random sex, adultery, alcohol use, gambling and homosexuality? We fast while our children are subjected to mass culture. More and more we don't speak because the government is supporting these evils.

  13. Pray that we may be able to fast throughout Ramadan, and to carry out the obligatory prayers and at least some of the extra prayers.
Pray that we take out time every day to study the Quran and study some Hadith.

Ameen.

Masses are Exploited by the Regime & the Merchants even as Ramadan Approaches.
by Qaiser Sharif

LAHORE, June 5; Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq, has said that the rulers' attitude on the ToR's was not appropriate as they were not ready to constitute an independent and autonomous Enquiry Commission but these tactics won't save them. He was talking to the media after distributing special Ramazan package to the needy on behalf of the Al-Khidmat Foundation at Barkat Market area on Sunday.

Sirajul Haq said that the masses were demanding a ruthless and indiscriminate accountability and if the rulers continued their delaying tactics, the masses would lose patience and stage a march towards Islamabad. Hafiz Salman Butt and JI Lahore chief Zikrullah Mujahid were also present.

He said that it was the responsibility of the state to look after the widows, orphans and destitute but the government, instead was diverting all its resources towards the elite.

The JI chief said that in the western countries, the prices of all items was reduced by fifty per cent on the approach of Christmas. On the other hand, in our society, the prices of the basic necessities of life were doubled on the approach of Ramazan and there was no authority to check this unjustified raise. Respectable ladies and young as also aged women were forced to line up for ration. Muslim rulers were expected to be servants of the masses and an Islamic state was duty bound to provide the necessities of life to the needy at their door step but the rulers in this country were treating the masses as slaves.

Sirajul Haq said that the Finance Minister in his budget speech, had not uttered a word on corruption which was the biggest issue at the moment and if corruption was controlled, the masses could be provided the necessities of life free of cost.

He said that the Panama leaks had exposed the plunderers but the corrupt elite wanted to bury the issue under the carpet which was however not possible.

Speaking on the occasion, JI Lahore chief Zikrullah Mujahid, said that the JI and the Al-Khidmat Foundation were trying to provide maximum relief to the needy within their limited resources during Ramazan and for Eid ul Fitr. He appealed to the wealthy to extend financial support to Al-Khidmat Foundation in this noble task.

Difficulties of Feeding the Needy with Scarce Resources. End of a 5-month Visit to Ethiopia.
by Sis. Ashira Naim [Jamaat al-Muslimeen]

The "last leg" of our feeding program this year included a city we had not visited before. But first, let me share with you our activity in Addis, particularly with donations to the Muslim women there. At Masjid Nur distribution went very peacefully as the women received the envelopes until there were no more. Of course there were some angry or otherwise displeased women once they realized they had missed and were not going to be receiving any birrs ($s). Some of the women continued to come to me inside the masjid during the khutba to hold out their hand to me. I simply gave the two hands open sign of "nothing here" and remained quiet until they would get the message. Sometimes I opened an envelope to show them that there was nothing left to give.

As I left the masjid yard, I was somewhat saddened to see women giving me ugly looks, frowning and pointing at me, etc. because they had not received a donation. However, I reassured myself that next time, Inshallah, we will have more envelopes to give. And that thought removed all sadness as I realized also that it was just their human nature and not a fault of mine (smile).

However, our experience at Masjid Anwar was another story. As we had done in the past, envelopes were distributed to the really needy women, many with children in their arms, who sat in a lower enclave just outside the masid doors. Everything was going along orderly until a boisterous sister appeared demanding that she be told what was going on. Though I could not understand her spoken language (Amharic), her body language and facial expression was very clear. She wanted to be in charge of the distribution. Once she agreed-- while giving her a bag of envelopes with birrs and telling her to take one for herself and give one to the sisters in the yard who are really in need--I entered the masjid door nearest to the rear wall.

Because the tall windows allowed a view into the yard, I was able to see how the sister was managing the distribution. Within a matter of 5 minutes or less, the sister was fully surrounded by women pulling at her clothing and scarf as she swung her arms to fight them off--astaghfirullah. Fortunately, this was occurring long before the khutba began because I intentionally went early. Soon after, a brother who was also accosting the sister, came to me while I sat on the floor in the rear of the women's area. The sister sitting next to me explained that the man was a helper at the masjid. He spoke a minimal amount of English and I told him that the sister was helping me to distribute charity, etc. It appeared the sister did not have the "good" reputation for the assignment and so he did not trust her; and they even searched her. His anger was diminished when I reached into my purse and gave him the second bag which I had kept for the men. He was happy to distribute them to the most needy on the men's side of the masjid.

Now, for this disturbance I really felt in need of Allah's forgiveness and prayed for it as I was finally able to offer my 2 rakats and ask Allah to help me to be able to find a better way to reach these women. Street distributions are less troublesome once the path is decided, but the Muslim men and women inside our gates must be included in our "street feeding" which reaches all needy people regardless to their religion. This problem was not as big in previous years; but as resources decrease, the people become more desperate in their behavior.

Inshallah, we will develop ways to reach the brothers and sisters in need at the masajid while maintaining control of who receives the contributions. It is our intent to give to those who we can see are needy and not to simply give the funds and that task to masjid personnel.

A W A S S A, Yes, this is the town whose name our dearly departed brother, Dr. Shabazz, had pronounced so emphatically one day while some discussion of Ethiopia was held. I wondered why he had emphasized the name but did not get the opportunity to ask him. I am so grateful that we were able to visit that town too and its main masjid.

Awassa was a 3 and 1/2 hours bus ride south of Adama and was well worth the trip. The hotel that had been recommended for my budget and interest to see the many nationalities residing there was very near the bus station. Here is a town of clear distinction--no trash in the streets nor along the walkways, better and cleaner hotel accommodations for the same or lesser cost, more people who speak a little more English. It reminded me of my hometown in many ways as the music played throughout the restaurant area of the hotel, people came continuously into the large outdoor area always smiling and seemingly happy. These people appeared to be more "affluent," and most of those I met were 1st and 2nd degree holders.

We visited the main masjid and distributed our charity there with the assistance of a sister who pointed out the most needy. Some street feeding was also done over the course of a 10-day stay, and we were happy for this opportunity to add Awassa.

There's a lot more we'd like to share with our readers in the upcoming issues of NewTrend Magazine. Meanwhile, as we prepare for next year's visit, please send your contributions payable to Masjid Jamaat al Muslimeen with the note for: Ethiopia. Mail to 4624 York Road, Baltimore, Maryland 21212.

Boston
Mass Action to Condemn Extra Judicial Killing of Al Hajj Usaamah Rahim.
by Sis. Karin Friedemann

On June 2, 2016, about 45 demonstrators called out by Mass Action Against Police Brutality commemorated the one year anniversary of the coordinated police and FBI assassination of 26 year old Al Hajj Usaamah Rahim in Roslindale, Massachusetts, where he was ambushed in the parking lot of CVS.

After murdering Rahim, the JTTF raided the home of his nephew, David Wright in Everett, Massachusetts and arrested him on charges of conspiracy to provide material support to ISIL, obstruction charges, and charges to commit terrorism across national boundaries. The crowd of protesters was majority Black, many Muslim, and very diverse.

After marching from Roslindale Square, flowers were strewn at the spot where Rahim died, and Imam Farooq of Masjid Alhamdulillah made a dua. Then white balloons were released into the air while reading al Fatiha. His mother and other close friends and family wore all white. Many people driving by seemed supportive or curious, and those who slowed down, as well as pedestrians we passed, were handed a leaflet headlined, "Justice for Usaamah Rahim!"

Rahim was on his way to work at CVS that morning on June 2, 2015 in broad daylight. FBI claimed the brother was wielding a knife, but the surveillance video clearly shows that the federal agents and police officers suddenly approached him, one with gun drawn. No federal or municipal judge served any warrant for Rahim. This was not a situation gone bad while someone was resisting arrest. This police killing appears to be premeditated murder organized by the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF).

The government claims that Rahim and Wright were in contact online with Junaid Hussain, whom Obama assassinated by drone in August 2015 in Raqqa, Syria. Hussain was a 21 year old British-Pakistani hacker who once posted Tony Blair's personal information online, and was later said to be recruiting volunteers for the Islamic State online, according to the government.

"This dangerous precedent of government abduction based on science fiction-like speculation and prognostication is a threat to the rights of everyone," states Mass Action. "It is also very concerning that the Boston Police force is involved with an FBI investigation blurring the line of the duties of local police and federal government. This is all part of the ever increasing expansion of police agencies and police powers that target the residents of this country in the name of fighting the 'War on Terror.'"

Wright's legal case has similarities to others' like Tarek Mehanna and Ziyad Yaghi, as well as Yassin Aref, in that the JTTF, BPD and FBI followed these young men for months previous to their arrest. The government has not provided any evidence of a conspiracy other than wiretapped conversations, which they claim contain hidden code words. For example, "going on vacation" to them meant "going for jihad." The government also claims that Rahim and Wright were planning to behead Pamela Geller. Wright, who maintains his innocence, has been held in the brutal Plymouth facility for one and ½ years awaiting trial.

The protesters demanded the indictment and prosecution of all police, FBI and others involved in the military tactile assassination of Al Hajj Usaamah Rahim; Full and complete investigation of all officers and personnel involved in the murder and plotting of the murder; Release of the full unedited video of the shooting to the public; Freedom for David Wright, imprisoned since June 2 2015; and and an End to the targeting of Blacks and Muslims!

Chicago and New York.
Rahm Emmanuel has turned Chicago into Occupied Palestine + Personal Memories of Muhammad Ali.
By sis. Aisha (Jamaat al-Muslimeen)

New York City - Over 101, yes 101, videos of police shootings and misconduct " been released for the City of Chicago to see. Embattled Zionist Mayor Rahm Emmanuel and Independent Police Review Authority Chief Administrator Sharon Fairley are calling this a great move in the right direction because it is an effort to make the Chicago Police more transparent.
What????!

How is showing an oppressed community videos of their people being maimed and slaughtered by criminal police a step in the right direction? These officers (or overseers) are committing these crimes with impunity. All these videos seek to do is to further create feelings of dejection and disenfranchisement in these oppressed communities. These incidents are from cases under investigation but, Chicago police have a history of being corrupt with no prison time served.

The people of Chicago want Rahm Emmanuel to step down and hopefully they are not fooled by these subliminal White Supremacist moves!

Rahm Emmanuel is a Zionist devil who needs to leave office and not by abdication. He needs to be toppled. He has turned Chicago into occupied Palestine with those secret detention centers. Being a former member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, this man has skeletons and bodies in his closet! It is a wonder he got elected as mayor....twice! (Courtesy of Yahoo.com)

Muhammad 'Ali Passes Away
We all come from Allah and it is to him we must return. Yesterday, after midnight, is when I learned that retired heavyweight champion Muhammad "Ali passed on.

I am so grateful to have had an icon, such as Muhammad 'Ali, in my lifetime. I remember getting a few autographs from him on different occasions whenever he visited the Malcolm Shabazz Masjid on 116th street and Lenox Avenue in Harlem, NY. He was a frequent visitor there in the early 1980s. He would always be asked to speak a few words in the musallah to the children there. He always encouraged us to stick to our Islamic faith.

In spite of 'Ali's shortcomings, he was a notorious womanizer and has been married a few times, he was a positive inspiration for all of the oppressed. His imperfections in his private life are something his family, and they alone, will have to come to terms with, subhanallah.

The mainstream media is going to try to rewrite his image the way they have with Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. They are able to fool the current generation into believing that they are really behind these kinds of outspoken figures but, the mainstream media cannot help but, show its fangs when a modern celebrity does anything close to what 'Ali and King did all those years ago. There is the media backlash against Beyonce for paying tribute to the Black Panthers during halftime in the 2016 Super Bowl and most recently, the Black female cadets at West Point pictured giving the Black Power salute. These cadets have since been cleared of any wrong doing.

In April 1967, Muhammad 'Ali took a stand, as only a Black Muslim would, and refused to be drafted into the Vietnam War. Up until that time, America was enamored with his riffin' and rhymin'. He was entertaining in and outside of the ring, even after converting to Islam. But, when he refused to go into Vietnam he was branded a draft dodger and a coward. "Ali received death threats and his livelihood as a boxer was taken from him making it difficult for him to feed his family However,it has been said that there were those in "Black" Hollywood and elsewhere who helped him out.

Then, there was the famous "Ali Summit, as it was later called, held on June 4, 1967. Young UCLA sophomore Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Russell, Carl Stokes (politician), Walter Beach, Bobby Mitchell, Sid Williams, Curtis McClinton, Willie Davis, Jim Shorter, and John Wooten gathered around Muhammad 'Ali in a show of solidarity. With the exception of Carl Stokes, every other member was an active or retired athlete. This Summit was organized and attended by hall of fame football player Jim Brown. No type of unification for an individual under such a controversial issue has occurred since but, that is not to say it won't ever happen again. There are athletes who have paid homage to police murder victims and have been criticized for it.

Unfortunately, many Black athletes are enamored with being a well-like, well-paid celebrity. White celebrities speak up but still want to stay members of the good ol' boys club. People are quick to apologize and clarify. This is when even their enemies lose respect for them. You can't eat your cake and still have it. A true practicer of the Faith understands this.

Yes, Muhammad 'Ali won his battle against the American government via the Supreme Court, in 1971. But, as a Muslim this is not why Muhammad 'Ali's stance was so important. What is important about 'Ali's decision to avoid the draft as a conscientious objector is that he did not know the outcome before he publicly defied Goliath - the American government. No Muslim knows what the outcome will be: unlawful imprisonment, injury, death, or vindication (in this lifetime or posthumously)?

This is what made Muhammad 'Ali a well-respected and admired icon. Plus, he NEVER apologized for what he did. He always stood by his convictions and went toe-to-toe with racists and dupes, such as William F. Buckley and Sylvester Stone of Sly and the Family Stone, respectively, on popular 1970s tv shows! These videos can be seen on YouTube.

Muhammad 'Ali's defiance is still the most talked about act of bravery by any single man in modern history because he fought the law and HE Won!

Salaam,
Sis. 'Aisha

Editorial note: Sis. Aisha says he was a "womanizer." Then he surely cannot be an inspiration for Muslims. Malcolm X and Imam Jamil al-Amin were greater but did not get all this praise because the power structure is still against them. Malcolm gave his life. Imam Jamil is in prison. How can we say that Muhammad Ali is the best Black leader? I admire Sis. Aisha's courage in pointing out this major flaw. Thank you.

*Sighting the New Moon of Ramadhan is Fardh Kifaayah{!}*

It is Obligatory to witness the new moon for establishing certain acts of worship...If these acts are obligatory, such as Fasting~Ramadhaan & 'Hajj'...then witnessing the New Moon also becomes obligatory on the Muslim 'Ummah'~ {Fard Kifaayah} !

That is because " what is necessary to fulfill the requirements of an obligation is an obligation itself. "

The 'Sunnah' 'Dua' upon seeing the new moon... The Prophet (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) taught us the dua to read when we see the new moon. So make an effort to sight the Ramadhan Moon with full attention and eagerness and say this 'Dua' on sighting the new moon...
{In Shaa Allah}

Transliteration:-

Allaahu 'Akbar, Allaahumma 'ahillahu 'alayna bil'amni wal'eemaani, wassalaamati wal-'Islaami, wattawfeeqi limaa tuhibbu Rabbanaa wa tardhaa, Rabbunaa wa Rabbukallaahu .

Translation:-

Allaah is the Greatest. O Allaah, let the crescent loom above us in safety, faith, peace, and Islaam, and in agreement with all that You love and pleases You.
Our Lord and your Lord is Allaah."

A Neglected 'Sunnah' ?
It is a part of the beauty of Islam anticipating when Fasting will start. When will 'Eid' be ?
This builds up the excitement and love of these blessed times.
And there is deepest wisdom in how
Allah {Subhaanahu wa Taala} ordained these issues.
This was the way of the Prophet

the Sahaabah, and the Early generations,
including the Four Imams.
Yet, it is sad to see many Muslims getting lost in the fast track world of machines and calculations and neglecting this act of 'Sunnah' !
...thus losing out on the chance to earn reward from their Rabb for following the Prophet
(SallAllahu 'Alayhi Wasallam) and his guidance...{!}

PLEASE REVIVE THE 'SUNNAH' {!}
So work hard to revive the 'Sunnah' of the Prophet
(SallAllahu 'Alayhi Wasallam) and Please don't belittle it.
Practice it yourself, teach it to your children and others.
Reviving aspects of the 'Sunnah' that are being forgotten is one of the most important charitable deeds that a person can do during his lifetime and is a deed that will bring an immense reward...{!}
"Whoever revives an aspect of my 'Sunnah' that is forgotten after my death, he will have a reward equivalent to that of the people who follow him, without it detracting in the least from their reward."

PROPHET (SallAllahu 'Alayhi Wasallam) also said:-
'Pay attention to my 'Sunnah' and the way of the Rightly-guided
haleefahs after me, adhere to it and hold fast to it.'

"And he who brings the Truth and he who confirms and supports it ... such are the men who do right.
They shall have all that they wish for, with their Rabb.
Such is the reward of those who do good:
so that Allah will remit from them (even) the worst of their deeds and give them their reward according to the best of what they have done."
