Translations of the Qur'an should be idiomatic, not literal:

Most Muslims depend on translations of the Qur'an though they try to learn Arabic and recite the Qur'an in Arabic.
Maulana Maudoodi's translation of the Qur'an into Urdu, available on CD, begins with an extremely insightful introduction in which he discusses the requirements of a good translation.
Maudoodi [rahmatullah alaih] points out the serious damage to understanding the Qur'an posed by literal translations. Such efforts, he says, lose the rhythm and power of the original Arabic entirely. [He also explains research contexts in which literal translations can be useful.] Translations are further damaged by the biblical style in which verses are separated by numbers, as in English translations, thus creating a disconnect in the subject matter which flows from verse to verse.
Maudoodi also criticizes the inability of most translations to capture the verbal, rhetorical style of a Book which is not academic but which was revealed within the context of the struggle between oppression and Guidance. Often the Qur'an uses the style of debate and defiance while answering the objections and abuse of the established powers. Translators who try to disconnect the Qur'an from the life of the Prophet, pbuh, the questioning, the propaganda and the attacks he faced, often miss the point that the Divine Book starts by addressing its immediate audience but in such a way that it provides Guidance for all time to come.
The Qur'an has its own language which is often different from the Arabic of the dictionary. Maudoodi uses as examples the words "kufr" and "kafir" to illustrate the idiom of the Qur'an.
Maudoodi decided to write his translation when he found that most translations lack these pre-requisites.

Attempt to Terrorize Sis. Lisa : Wife of Political Prisoner Ahmad Abdel Sattar

In June, there were incidents in Staten Island, New York in which someone dumped bio-medical waste on various streets. People were warned by the local authorities to look out for such waste and report. One day, Sis. Lisa saw that such bio-medical waste had been dumped in front of her apartment. She called the local paper, not knowing that the paper would use the occasion to incite the public against her. A few days after she called, she was shocked to see the following front page headline and story about her in the paper:

An Elm Park woman whose husband was sentenced to 24 years as a would-be terrorist made an unsettling discovery last night: A biohazard cooler of medical waste had been ditched in front of her home.
The discovery comes two days after authorities announced they had foiled a plot to blow up Kennedy Airport.
The Elm Park woman, Lisa Sattar, and her Hooker Place neighbor found the bright red box at about 6:30 p.m.


She rejected any suggestion that the medical waste was in retaliation for ......"

Sis. Lisa wrote a letter to the paper expressing her surprise that she was targeted in this blatant manner. She waited for a long time but her letter has not been published and no apology has been forthcoming from the editor.

The photo with the report showed her home's door with the number on it. It is a clear act of incitement against her and her family.

Renewed Call to Action for Imam Jamil al-Amin

As some of you may already know, Jamil Al-Amin has been moved to the United States Penitentiary Administrative Maximum Facility (ADX), which is a supermax prison in Florence, Colorado. This facility generally houses over 400 prisoners, and each prisoner is assigned to one of six security levels. At this time it is unclear which level Jamil Al-Amin had been assigned to. Most prisoners at this facility are kept for at least 23 hours each day in solitary confinement (Jamil Al-Amin was already kept under 23 hour lockdown since 2002).

This Penitentiary is "home" to many high profile prisoners, including Omer Abdel Rahman ("the Blind Sheik") and many of the other 1993 accused World Trade Center "conspirators", Zacarias Moussaoui, Theodore Kazcynski, Terry Nichols, Richard Reid, Robert Hanssen, Eric Rudolph, and John Walker Lindh. Additionally there are numerous high ranking members and leaders of groups including skinheads, several gangs and drug rings.

There is a growing pubic outcry against these types of maximum security facilities, and efforts are underway to organize a public resistance movement. These types of facilities have been created by the united states government to in essence break down the inmates. This type of isolation and mistreatment over time is a form of torture and should be a great source of embarrassment for a "leading nation" as the united states claims to be.

The main goal for supporters at this point is to make this new facility very aware of the public support for Jamil Al-Amin. There is a mass effort underway to flood the prison with mail for him.

Oppression of Women in India: One of the Causes of Muslim-Hindu Conflict.
Muslim women sexually attacked, paraded naked in UP

Shrawasti (UP): a simple case of elopement by two lovers belonging to two different religious communities turned into a heinous crime committed against members of Muslim community.

A Muslim boy and a Hindu girl eloped on 7th of July in Shrwasti district of Uttar Pradesh. An FIR was filed for the alleged kidnapping of the girl. Three days later hundreds from girl's village attacked Muslim dominated village of Sirsia that the boy belonged to. Brother of a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) minister is reported to be leading that mob.

The mob beat all Muslims, burnt a number of houses of that village. The most heinous is that several Muslim women were sexually assaulted and a few of them paraded naked.

Police deny any such incident have happened and in fact refuse to lodge an FIR. Medical examination of these women could be taken only after 48 hours severely limiting the hope of finding any evidence of rape after such a long time.

Reporters have seen marks of attack and assault on the bodies of women.

Legislators of Samajwadi Party (SP) walked out of the state assembly over this incident and involvement of a BSP minister. Waqar Shah of SP raised this issue in the Assembly and dubbed the Mayawati government of UP as "anti-Muslim."

Meanwhile BSP government has announced the suspension of police officers of Shrawasti districts. Lalji Verma, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs denied involved of any BSP minister in the incident. An inquiry has been ordered.

IRAQ: Chief U.S. Ally in Anbar Killed. Ramadi back in Islamic hands

September 13. A Sunni "shaikh," Abu Risha, from the city of Ramadi whom President Bush met during his quick stopover in Asad military base in Anbar province was killed in a bomb attack. Two of his bodyguards were also killed. Al-Qaida-in-Iraq, in an Internet message, has taken credit. The "Shaikh" had survived for some time because he spent the last month and a half in Amman.
It is a disaster for the Bush claim that the Sunnis have been won over.
Meanwhile the Islamic State in Iraq [led by al-Qaida] announced on September 14 that after the execution of Abu Risha, Islamic forces have re-occupied the key city of Ramadi and arrested dozens of collaborators in the city.

September 14: U.S. attack on mosque in Anbar

During a U.S. military attack on a mosque in the Kerwah area of Anbar province, 3 Muslims were killed. U.S. sources say that the 3 were from al-Qaida and had weapons.
In the Baiji area, north of Baghdad, a martyrdom operator struck a police post of the U.S. backed forces killing 7 police officers.

Truth about Sunnis in Iraq: 90% are deadly opposed

According to Senator Chris Dodd [C-Span Sept. 11], a survey shows that 90% of the Sunnis in Iraq justify the killing of U.S. troops. More than 70% refuse to tell U.S. where IEDs have been placed by the resistance. The Senator was responding to General Petraeus claim that Sunnis are supporting the U.S. now. Petraeus weaved quite a web of deception, observers say.

PAKISTAN: Musharraf's Commandos Killed: Heavy Fighting in both N. and S. Waziristan: Mounting Losses on both sides

September 13, 2007: Musharraf's crack commando force, SSG, had sat down for dinner in its heavily fortified bunkers in the Tarbela Ghazi area [Haripur Tehsil] [100 km south of Islamabad] when a martyrdom operator blew them up. The powerful explosion was heard all the way in town, shutting down the wireless and communication system of the base.
Twenty five of the commandos [said to be from a sect] were killed outright and another 40 were wounded. More are expected to die. [Pakistani reporters agree that this was the exact commando unit Musharraf used to destroy the Red Mosque and the Women's University, Jamia Hafsa, where hundreds of Islamic students were killed. Abdul Rashid Ghazi's mother and many other women and men were killed when the commandos used phosphorous.]

September 13: In south Waziristan, Pakistani forces launched an assault on Islamic fighters in the Nawaz Kot area of Tehsil Makeen. Pakistani helicopter gunships drove back the fighters, killing 30 mujahideen. Ten Pakistani troops were killed as they advanced into the hills. As the back and forth battle continued, a Pakistani unit of 80 engaged in a reconnaissance operation was trapped and wiped out to the last man by the mujahideen using rocket fire.
In a suburb of KOHAT, six shops selling CDs of music considered "corrupt" by the Islamists were blown up. No one was hurt.

In the Razamak area of North Waziristan, Pakistani troops have advanced against the mujahideen but then fell into an ambush. Both sides are making unverifiable claims of victory.
Owing to the ongoing use of heavy weaponry by Pakistan with severe resistance by the Islamists, large numbers of civilians are leaving and have become internal refugees.

U.S. Affirms Support for Musharraf: Deadly Pact

September 14: John Negraponte, Deputy Secretary, and Richard Boucher, in charge of South Asian affairs, completed a visit to Pakistan. They met General Musharraf, "Prime Minister" Shaukat Aziz, Interior Minister Sher Pao [Peoples Party leader] and others to affirm to the regime that the U.S. will not abandon them. Vast sums of U.S. dollars are being made available to Musharraf to help put down the Islamic uprising in Waziristan.

AFGHANISTAN: Taliban Victory North of Kabul

September 10: Readers might remember several months back New Trend reported that a Taliban guerrilla force had entered Kapisa province north of Kabul. Looks like the process has been completed. Taliban are now in control of Kapisa province and have been interviewed by Al-Jazeera.

There are also reports that several areas of the capital city of Kabul itself are now in the hands of the Taliban.

Earlier on Sept. 4, Karzai's intelligence service suffered when Taliban blew up a vehicle in Kunar province killing 7 security officials including 4 from intelligence.
Also in Zabul province, Taliban attacked a long convoy of trucks carrying military supplies from Bagram air force base to Kandhar. Sixteen trucks were destroyed in the Taliban attack. The defenders fended off the Taliban killing one and wounding three.
On September 6, 2007 . In Helmand province, two British troops were killed in a Taliban attack. In Kandahar province, a U.S. helicopter was shot down and all its passengers perished. The U.S. air force struck the Taliban but the Taliban say they escaped unharmed.
Propaganda war is being waged from Kabul. The regime claims U.S. victories against Taliban in Kandahar province but observers on the ground say no such action has taken place.

KASHMIR: Agonized People Rally against India

September 14: In Sopore, students rallied at the local college to protest the police torture and murder of a student named Muhammad Ramzan. Police clashed with students and used tear gas, when they came out of the college, to disperse them.
A political organization known as Kashmir Liberation Front took out a procession against the murder which walked for 5 miles and was joined by people in the adjoining areas who chanted slogans against India's state terrorism.

Explanation of Moon sighting Claims on 9.12

We checked every report including those mentioned on moonsighting.com. carefully The Com. did not find any of them credible.

The claims were made from NYC (3 places) Philadelphia (with photos), Samford Fl, Chicago, Macomb IL, Austin, TX, El Paso TX Irvine, Chino Valley, CA

All those that were outside the visibility curve suffered from the usual mistake: either immediately before the sunset, within 1-6 minutes after sunset or after the moonset. Hence not credible.

Irvive and Chino Valley were by binoculars only and did not look like a crescent. Sanford claim missed many visibility parameters. El Paso claim also totally missed the crescent as they claimed the side that was not lit (and did not provide details of when, where, how long, etc. to check it)

The strongest point was: NOT SEEN west of from where the claims were made.

Brownsville TX, Kingman AZ, and San Diego CA (and many other places in southern CA) were extremely clear and large groups of 15-20 experienced observers at dozens of locations tried the crescent during 20-35 minutes window after the sunset and reported non-sighting. We waited till the last of the observation teams confirmed from San Diego at 11:14 EST that a moon is not visible to finalize our decision.

We stand by our evaluation of the claimed sightings that the moon was NOT visible anywhere in N. America on Wed., Sep. 12 after the sunset.

Moon's location and shape in the evening of Thu. Sep. 13 also confirmed our conclusion It was too low on the horizon and too blurred 24 hours later to be visible a day earlier.

Please also remember the law of averages. If 15 Muslims are looking for the moon at a location and only 1,2,3 claim seeing it for a few seconds and others could not, then non-sighting is more credible than sighting. Now extend it to all over America where at least .0001% Muslims tried and only 3 (Moonsighting.com) could see it. If the rest could not then who is more credible?

The moon's altitude and lag blocked a 35-38 hours old moon's visibility and it is quite normal.
